2017 Virginia Elections
Statewide and municipal elections were held in the U.S. state of Virginia on November 7, 2017. The main election being held in Virginia was the state's gubernatorial election. In addition, all of Virginia's House of Delegates seats were up for re-election. Primary elections for the House of Delegates and the governor were held on June 13, 2017. Ralph Northam (D) was elected to become the 73rd Governor of Virginia, Justin Fairfax (D) was elected to become the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, and Mark Herring (D) was reelected as the 47th Attorney General of Virginia. Bob Marshall (Virginia Politician)
Robert Gerald Marshall (born May 3, 1944) is an American businessman, author and former politician, who was a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 13th District. His district included portions of Prince William and Loudoun counties. He is known for his failed "bathroom bill" proposal, which would have forced people to use restrooms that correspond with the sex on their original birth certificates. In the November 7, 2017, general election, Marshall was defeated by nine percentage points by Democrat Danica Roem, the first openly transgender candidate elected to a state legislature in the United States. Manoli Loupassi
George Manoli Loupassi (born June 8, 1967, in Richmond, Virginia) is an American politician of the Republican Party. From 2008 to 2018, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. He represented the 68th district, comprising parts of the city of Richmond and Chesterfield County. Political career Loupassi became treasurer of the Richmond Republican Committee in 1998. He was elected to the Richmond City Council in 2000 representing the 1st district in the city's West End. Prior to 2005 the Mayor of Richmond was the City Council's chair, chosen by its members. Dawn Adams
Dawn Marie Adams (born November 6, 1964) is an American politician serving as the Delegate from the 68th District of the Virginia House of Delegates since 2018. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Adams is a nurse practitioner and small business owner as well as a former Director of the Office of Integrated Health at the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and a former Health Policy adjunct faculty at the Old Dominion University. Kathy Tran (born 1978) is an American politician who currently serves in the Virginia House of Delegates. A Democrat, she has represented the 42nd House of Delegates district since 2018. Elizabeth Rosalina Guzmán is a Peruvian-American politician and social worker elected to represent Virginia's 31st House of Delegates district in Virginia's House of Delegates. Lee Jin Carter (born June 2, 1987) is an American former politician who represented the 50th district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2018 to 2022.
