2017 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship
The 2017 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship was the fifteenth edition of the international volleyball tournament and the world championship for women's national teams under the age of 18, organized by the sport's world governing body, FIVB. The tournament was hosted by Argentina in the cities of Rosario and Santa Fe from 18 to 27 August 2017. 20 teams from the 5 confederations competed in the tournament. Italy won its second title in the competition, after also winning the previous edition, defeating Dominican Republic in the final. Russia defeated Turkey for the bronze medal. Elena Pietrini from Italy was elected the MVP. Qualification The FIVB Sports Events Council revealed a proposal to streamline the number of teams participating in the Age Group World Championships. Elena Pietrini
Elena Pietrini (born 17 March 2000) is an Italian volleyball player who plays as a wing spiker for the Italian national team. She made her debut appearance at the Olympics representing Italy at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Biography Her father Alberto Pietrini was a professional basketball player who played at club level and her mother Laura Pietrini and her sister Giulia Pietrini were also volleyball players. Youth career She was part of the youth national team which emerged as runners-up to Russia at the 2017 Girls' U18 Volleyball European Championship. She was also a key member of the Italian U18 team which won the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship. FIVB World Rankings
The FIVB Senior World Rankings is a ranking system for men's and women's national teams in volleyball. The teams of the member nations of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), volleyball's world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A points system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of all FIVB-recognised full international matches. The rankings are used in international competitions to define the seeded teams and arrange them in pools. Specific procedures for seeding and pooling are established by the FIVB in each competition's formula, but the method usually employed is the serpentine system. The ranking system has been revamped in 2020, responding to criticism that the preceding calculation method did not effectively reflect the relative strengths of the national teams.
