2017 Circuit De La Sarthe
The 2017 Circuit de la Sarthe–Pays de Loire was the 65th edition of the Circuit de la Sarthe cycling stage race. It was held in the Sarthe department between 4 and 7 April 2017 and consisted of five stages, two of which took place on the same day. It was rated as a 2.1 event on the 2017 UCI Europe Tour. rider Lilian Calmejane took his third stage race win of the 2017 season, with a three-second margin of victory over French national champion Arthur Vichot, riding for the team. Calmejane took the overall lead of the race after winning the penultimate stage of the race, and maintained the lead despite Vichot's best efforts on the final stage. The overall podium was completed by Jonathan Castroviejo (), a further ten seconds in arrears of Vichot. Individual Time Trial
An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage"). There are also track-based time trials where riders compete in velodromes, and team time trials (TTT). ITTs are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends only on each rider's strength and endurance, and not on help provided by teammates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream. Individual time trial are usually held on flat or rolling terrain, although sometimes they are held up a mountain road (in Italian: ''cronoscalata'' "chrono climbing"). Saint-Calais
Saint-Calais () is a commune in the Sarthe department in the region of Pays de la Loire in north-western France. Prior to the French Revolution it was known for its Benedictine abbey named after the Anisola stream (modern Aniole, a tributary of the Braye). Saint-Calais is a later name coming from one of the local saints of the Perche area. William of St. Calais, a product of this monastery, was a post-conquest bishop of Durham. There are no remains of the Abbey, which was a principal land-owner in the vicinity. The existing parish church has a fine Renaissance facade. The Aniole was dammed by the monks, thereby retaining a significant lake area. Reaction against monastic landowners and the relative proximity to Paris (under twenty-four hours by stage-coach) conditioned the nineteenth century politics of the town. L'Épau Abbey
L'Épau Abbey (french: Abbaye de l'Épau) is a former Cistercian abbey founded by the English queen Berengaria of Navarre in 1229. It is located on the outskirts of the city of Le Mans, on the left bank of the Huisne, adjoining the town of Yvré-l'Évêque. The abbey was suppressed in the French Revolution. The surviving buildings came close to destruction on several occasions, but their preservation was finally assured in 1958 by the General Council of the Sarthe department. Ligné (; br, Legneg) is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department in western France. Location The commune of Ligné is located 25 km nord-east of Nantes, 17 km north-west of Ancenis and 10 km east of Nort-sur-Erdre. The bordering communes are Les Touches, Mouzeil, Couffé, Le Cellier, Saint-Mars-du-Désert and Petit-Mars. Justin Jules (born 20 September 1986) is a French professional road bicycle racer, who most recently rode for UCI ProTeam . Personal life Born in Sartrouville, he is the son of Pascal Jules, a professional cyclist who was active during the 1980s – achieving one Tour de France stage victory in 1984 – who died in a road traffic accident when Justin was just over a year old. In 2008, Jules was sentenced to three years in prison for the manslaughter of his step-father in 2004. The sentence had been reduced due to a complicated upbringing and his step-father's troubles with alcoholism.
