2017 CS Ondrej Nepela Trophy
The 2017 CS Ondrej Nepela Trophy was held in September 2017. It is an annual senior international figure skating competition held in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was part of the 2017–18 ISU Challenger Series. Medals will be awarded in the disciplines of single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance. ISU Challenger Series
The ISU Challenger Series is a series of international figure skating competitions. Established by the International Skating Union in the 2014–15 season, it is a group of senior-level events ranked below the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Each event consists of at least three disciplines out of four ( men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing), and is required to take place between August 1 and December 15. The ISU Challenger Series Synchronized Skating is a separate competition series in the discipline of synchronized skating. History The ISU Council decided to create the series at its February 2014 meeting. Eleven competitions were selected in June 2014. The Triglav Trophy dropped out by October 10, 2014, resulting in a series composed of ten events. Ice Dance
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pairs skating, pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Couples and friends would skate waltzes, marches, and other social dances. The first steps in ice dance were similar to those used in ballroom dancing. Natasha Purich ( ; born June 5, 1995) is a Canadian pair skater. With former partner Raymond Schultz, she placed fifth at the 2011 World Junior Championships and won the 2011 Canadian junior title. After their partnership ended in 2012, Purich teamed up with Sebastian Arcieri for 2012–13 season. She competed with Mervin Tran for the 2013–14 season before switching to Andrew Wolfe for the 2014–15 season. Purich has also competed in single skating. Larkyn Austman
Larkyn Austman (born February 22, 1998) is a former competitive Canadian figure skater. She is the 2017 International Challenge Cup bronze medalist and the 2018 Canadian national bronze medalist. On the junior level, she is the 2013 Canadian junior national champion and the 2012 Canadian junior national silver medalist. She placed 25th at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Personal life Larkyn Austman was born February 22, 1998, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. Nicolas Nadeau (born September 30, 1997) is a Canadian competitive figure skater. As a singles skater, he is the 2016 World Junior silver medallist and the 2015 Canadian national junior champion. Personal life Nadeau was born on September 30, 1997, in Montreal, Quebec. He has three older sisters – Tania, Pamela, and Mélissa. He enjoys skiing in addition to figure skating. Timothy A. McKernan II (born July 29, 1989) is an American ice dancer who skates in partnership with Kimberley Hew-Low for Australia. They competed at the 2017 Four Continents Championships. Representing the United States with Piper Gilles, McKernan won one medal on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series and became the 2008 U.S. national junior silver medalist. Personal life McKernan was born in York, Pennsylvania. He is an army brat and has lived all over the country. His mother, Vicky, is a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve. His father, Timothy A.
