2016–17 Handball-Bundesliga
The 2016–17 Handball-Bundesliga was the 52nd season of the Handball-Bundesliga, Germany's premier handball league and the 40th season consisting of only one league. It ran from 2 September 2016 to 10 June 2017. Rhein-Neckar Löwen won their second consecutive title. Teams A total of 18 teams will be participating in this year's edition of the Bundesliga. Of these, 15 sides qualified directly from the 2015–16 season and the top three sides were directly promoted from the 2. The Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) is the top German professional handball league. From 2007 onwards, the league was sponsored by Toyota and has officially been called the ''Toyota Handball-Bundesliga''. This lasted until 2012 when the Deutsche Kreditbank AG (DKB) became the new sponsor. The official name has consequently been changed to ''LIQUY MOLY Handball-Bundesliga''. HC Erlangen
HC Erlangen is a handball club from Erlangen, Germany. They currently compete in the Handball-Bundesliga. History In the 2000/2001 season, both HG Erlangen and CSG Erlangen played in the 2. Handball-Bundesliga, but this season CSG Erlangen dropped out due to a licensing problem, so the club decided to merge with its neighbor, HG Erlangen, which is already in the 2. Handball-Bundesliga. Solingen (; li, Solich) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Wuppertal (; "''Wupper Dale''") is, with a population of approximately 355,000, the seventh-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the 17th-largest city of Germany. Sparkassen-Arena Balingen
The Wunderino-Arena (formerly known as Ostseehalle) is an indoor arena, in Kiel, Germany. It is primarily used by THW Kiel (team handball) and as a venue for rock/pop concerts. It holds up to 13,500 people. History Construction was determined in 1950 by the Kiel council meeting. The Osteseehalle was initiated on 17 June 1951, during the Kiel Week and was eventually finished in 1952. For this purpose, the steel construction of a retired airplane hangar, from an airbase on the island Sylt, was dismantled and brought to Kiel. Over the course of decades, the arena was constantly redeveloped, and since renovations finished in September 2001, it is now "prepared for the next 50 years", according to the operators. Balingen (; Swabian: ''Balenga'') is a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, capital of the district of Zollernalbkreis. SC DHfK Leipzig Handball is a German handball team from Leipzig, Germany, that plays in the Handball-Bundesliga. It was one of the strongest GDR clubs in late 1950s and 1960s. History The SC DHfK Leipzig was founded in 1954 as a sports club of the ''Deutsche Hochschule für Körperkultur'' (German University for Physical Culture). During the time in the GDR, the club's handball section won six national championships (1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966) and won the GDR Cup twice.
