2016–17 Azerbaijan Premier League
The 2016–17 Azerbaijan Premier League was the 25th season of the Azerbaijan Premier League, the Azerbaijani professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Qarabağ were the defending champions, having won the previous season. The season began on 6 August 2016 and concluded on 29 April 2017. On 16 April 2017, Qarabağ defeated Inter Baku 3–0 to successfully defend their league title - their fourth league title in a row and fifth overall. Teams On 13 June 2016 the Professional Football League of Azerbaijan announced that both Khazar Lankaran, and Ravan, had been refused licenses to play in the 2016–17 Premier League and that no First Division teams would replace them. Azerbaijan Premier League
The Azerbaijan Premier League ( az, Azərbaycan Premyer Liqası) is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Azerbaijan football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd place winner secure right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round. Since 1992, a total of 8 clubs have been crowned champions of the Azerbaijani football system. The Azerbaijan Premier League was first organized in 2007 and succeeded the Top Division ( az, Yüksək Liqa), which existed from 1992 to 2007. Kapaz PFK ( az, Kəpəz Peşəkar Futbol Klubu, ), is an Azerbaijani football club based in Ganja, which competes in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the highest tier of Azerbaijan football. The club was founded as Toxucu in 1959. They have won the Azerbaijani Championship 3 times and the Azerbaijani Football Cup 4 times. The team's colours are yellow and blue. Tarlan Ahmadov
Tarlan Ahmadov ( az, Tərlan Musa oğlu Əhmədov, born 17 November 1971) is a retired Azerbaijani international football defender who was captain of the national team. During his international career he earned 73 caps, ranking him fourth in Azerbaijan's all time appearances. Ahmadov played his club football in Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine and Iran, ending his career with Olimpik Baku in 2009. Club career Ahmadov started his career at Termist Baku before moving to Neftchi Baku in 1989 and then Turan Tovuz in 1992.
