2015–16 Green Bay Phoenix Men's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach in his first year was Linc Darner. The Phoenix played their home games at the Resch Center and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 23–13, 11–7 in Horizon League play to finish in fourth place. They defeated Cleveland State, Milwaukee, Valparaiso, and Wright State to become champions of the Horizon League tournament. They received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to Texas A&M. Linc Darner
Linc Mitchel Darner (born December 12, 1970) is an American basketball coach and former men's basketball coach of the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay Phoenix. Darner previously spent nine seasons as the head coach at DII Florida Southern College and four seasons at Saint Joseph's College (Indiana). In 2015, Darner's Florida Southern Moccasins finished 36–1 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship. Darner was named the 2015 NABC UPS DII National Coach of the Year. Darner took over at Green Bay after Brian Wardle left in 2015. In his first season, he led the Phoenix to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1996. Darner was fired on May 17, 2020, after posting a 17–16 record in 2019–20. Playing career Darner played high school basketball at Highland High School in Anderson, Indiana. The University of Wisconsin–Stout (UW–Stout or Stout) is a public university in Menomonie, Wisconsin. A member of the University of Wisconsin System, it enrolls more than 9,600 students. Centralia, Illinois
Centralia is a city in Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington counties in the U.S. state of Illinois with the largest portion in Marion County. Merrill, Wisconsin
Merrill is a city in and the county seat of Lincoln County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located to the south of and adjacent to the Town of Merrill. The population was 9,347, according to the 2020 census. Merrill is part of the United States Census Bureau's Merrill MSA, which includes all of Lincoln County. Gary is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The city has been historically dominated by major industrial activity and is home to U.S. Steel's Gary Works, the largest steel mill complex in North America.
