2015–16 Baltic Basketball League
The 2015–16 Triobet Baltic Basketball League was the 12th season of the Baltic Basketball League and the first under the title sponsorship of Triobet. Overview This season’s competition included 6 teams from Estonia, 5 teams from Latvia and Lithuania and one team from Kazakhstan, which played all its games away. For the regular season the teams were divided into two groups of seven teams and competed in a round-robin competition system, with team facing each of their opponents twice. The teams qualified for the eighth-finals based on their ranking after the regular season. Out of the five teams who participated in FIBA Europe Cup competition – Ventspils, Juventus, Šiauliai, TÜ/Rock and Pieno žvaigždės – the latter three didn't qualify for the FIBA Europe Cup playoffs and thus begin their journey at the start of the BBL play-offs, seeded respectively first, second and third based on last season’s results. This season’s competition included 8 teams from Estonia, 6 each from Latvia and Lithuania, and one team apiece representing Finland and Russia. For the regular season the teams were divided into three groups and competed in a round-robin competition system, with each team facing their opponent twice. Top four teams of each group and the best fifth placed team qualified for the eight-finals. The three teams who participated in FIBA EuroChallenge and Eurocup competitions – Šiauliai, Tartu Ülikool/Rock and Ventspils – begin their journey at the start of the play-offs, seeded respectively first, second and third based on last season’s results. BK Jēkabpils
BK Jēkabpils is a professional basketball club based in Jēkabpils, Latvia, playing in the Latvian Basketball League and Baltic Basketball League. It was founded in 2012 and since then the club is playing in LBL higher division. The club's home arena is the Jēkabpils Sporta nams. In its first season the club entered the Latvian Basketball League playoff quarterfinals, which they lost to Barons kvartāls team. Already in the next 2013–2014th season the club had even greater success with their coach Igors Miglinieks to win LBL bronze medals. The Latvian Basketball League (LBL; lv, Latvijas Basketbola līga) also known as the '' Pafbet'' LBL for sponsorship reasons, is the national basketball championship in Latvia; composed of 6 teams. It is considered the biggest basketball league in Latvia. The LBL is a part of Latvian Basketball Association, which is the national governing body of basketball in Latvia. BC Tallinna Kalev
Tallinna Kalev/TLÜ is a professional basketball club based in Tallinn, Estonia. The team plays in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League and Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Their home arena is the Audentes Sports Centre. History The team was founded in 2002 as Pirita. Coached by Kalle Klandorf, the team joined the top-tier Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) in the 2002–03 season. In 2002, Pirita reached the Estonian Cup final, but were defeated by University of Tartu 76–92. In 2008, Pirita joined the multi-sport club Kalev. The team adopted the name Tallinna Kalev prior to the 2008–09 season. TalTech Basketball is the basketball team of Tallinn University of Technology based in Tallinn, Estonia. The team plays in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. Their home arena is the TalTech Sports Hall. The team has won eight Estonian Championships and seven Estonian Cups. History The game of basketball was first introduced to the Tallinn Tehnikum (predecessor of the Tallinn University of Technology) in 1928. Rapla KK, also known as Avis Utilitas Rapla for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Rapla, Estonia. The team plays in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. Their home arena is the Sadolin Sports Hall. History In 1996, Korvpalliklubi Rapla (Basketball Club Rapla) was founded as a division of the Rapla Sports School. The 2014–15 Alexela Korvpalli Meistriliiga was the 90th season of the Estonian basketball league and the second under the title sponsorship of Alexela. Kalev/Cramo came into the season as defending champions of the 2013–14 KML season. The season started on 4 October 2014 and concluded on 22 May 2015 with TÜ/Rock defeating Kalev/Cramo 4 games to 1 in the 2015 KML Finals to win their 26th Estonian League title. Korvpalli Meistriliiga
The Korvpalli Meistriliiga ( en, Basketball Champions League), known as the OlyBet Korvpalli Meistriliiga for sponsorship reasons, is the highest tier level and most important professional basketball league in Estonia. It is controlled by the Estonian Basketball Association. The first Estonian Basketball Championship tournament was held in 1925. During Soviet era (1941–1991) the league was called the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic Championship. After Estonia regained its independence in 1991, the league was reformed as the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). The KML, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of eight teams. BC Pieno žvaigždės ( lt, Krepšinio klubas Pieno žvaigždės) is a professional basketball club from Pasvalys, Lithuania which currently plays in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). The club name comes from the main sponsor Pieno žvaigždės. History Founded in 1999, the club played its inaugural season in the now-defunct fourth-tier Lithuanian Basketball C League (LKCL).
