BC Rakvere Tarvas
BC Rakvere Tarvas is a professional basketball club based in Rakvere, Estonia. The team plays in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. Their home arena is the Rakvere Sports Hall. Tarvas was relegated to the third Estonian division in 2017. On 19 June 2019, BC Rakvere Tarvas was again promoted to the Estonian-Latvian top tier league (Latvian–Estonian Basketball League). History Rakvere Tarvas was founded in 2006 by Andres Sõber and joined the top-tier Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) for the 2006–07 season, replacing another Rakvere based team, the financially troubled Rakvere Palliklubi. The team name Tarvas, meaning '' Aurochs'' in Estonian, is the symbol of Rakvere and is derived from the historic name of Rakvere, Tarvanpea (''Aurochs' head''). Korvpalli Meistriliiga
The Korvpalli Meistriliiga ( en, Basketball Champions League), known as the OlyBet Korvpalli Meistriliiga for sponsorship reasons, is the highest tier level and most important professional basketball league in Estonia. It is controlled by the Estonian Basketball Association. The first Estonian Basketball Championship tournament was held in 1925. During Soviet era (1941–1991) the league was called the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic Championship. After Estonia regained its independence in 1991, the league was reformed as the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). The KML, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of eight teams. The current KML champions are Pärnu who won their first Estonian Championship in the 2022 KML Play-offs. Reinar Hallik
Reinar Hallik (born 5 January 1984) is an Estonian retired professional basketball player. Standing at 2.08 m (6 ft 10 in), he played at the power forward position. Hallik represented the Estonian national basketball team internationally since 2012. Professional career Hallik began his professional career in 2001 with Hotronic of the Korvpalli Meistriliiga. In the next season, he played for Audentes. In 2003, Hallik signed for Estonian champions Tallinna Kalev. In 2004, Hallik joined Myleasecar Giants of the Dutch Basketball League. In January 2005, he returned to Estonia and rejoined Audentes. In 2005, Hallik joined Dalkia/Nybit. In January 2006, he was loaned to Rakvere. In the 2005–06 season, Hallik averaged 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. BC Kalev, known as BC Kalev/Cramo for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Tallinn, Estonia. The team plays in the Korvpalli Meistriliiga, the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the FIBA Europe Cup. They play their home games at the Kalev Sports Hall and Saku Suurhall. Kalev/Cramo have won 12 Estonian Championships, 8 Estonian Cups and 1 Latvian-Estonian Basketball League title. History Early years (1998–2005) Founded in 1998, the club started out as Canon ENM. The Latvia men's national basketball team ( lv, Latvijas basketbola izlase) represents Latvia in international basketball. They are organized and run by the Latvian Basketball Association. Latvia has reached the European Basketball Championship 15 times, with their ultimate success occurring during the inter-war period, when they became the first team to win the tournament in 1935. Juris Umbraško (born 29 July 1978 in Jekabpils, Latvia) is a Latvian professional basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Latvian-Estonian Basketball League team Rīgas Zeļļi. Club career Umbraško started his senior club career with Latvijas Basketbola līga team ASK Broceni LMT and moved to European basketball powerhouse CSKA Moscow. In 2002 he came back home to represent BK Ventspils and won the Latvian Championship titles in 2002 and 2003. Kaspars Cipruss (born February 2, 1982) is a Latvian basketball player. Club career Born in Rezekne, Latvia, Cipruss started his basketball career in Latvian powerhouse ASK/Brocēni/LMT in 1998. After extinction of the team he had a brief spell in Latvian team BK Gulbenes Buki. In 2000, he drew interest from Rutgers, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, UNLV and Boston College. Cipruss signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Rutgers, but he had letter-of-intent problem, so he decided instead to play professionally in Europe. Therefore, he moved to Italy, joining Lega Basket Serie A team Pallacanestro Trieste. Soon after he signed a 3-year contract with Slovenian Euroleague team KK Union Olimpija, but was loaned to KD Slovan. 2010–11 Baltic Basketball League
The MasterCard Baltic Basketball League 2010–11 was the 7th season of the Baltic Basketball League and the second under the title sponsorship of Mastercard. It was the fourth season of BBL as a two division league. The format featured 14 teams in the Elite Division and 10 teams in the Challenge Cup. Elite Division regular season started on September 29, 2010, and ended with the Final Four held in the Kaunas Sports Hall. It was won by BC Žalgiris who defeated BK VEF Rīga in the championship game on April 10, 2011. Baltic Basketball League
Baltic Basketball League (BBL) was the Baltic states basketball league founded in 2004. The league mainly focused on teams from the Baltic states, but teams from Sweden, Russia, Kazakhstan, Finland, and Belarus have participated in the Baltic League. After the 2017–18 season, the league announced that it was suspending its operations. History For the 2015–16 season, the format of the BBL included a regular season composed by two groups of seven teams that competed in a round-robin competition system, with each team facing their opponent twice. The teams qualified for the eight-finals based on their ranking after the regular season.
