Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front
The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front ( es, Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional, FMLN) is a left-wing political party in El Salvador. The FMLN was formed as an umbrella group on 10 October 1980, from five leftist guerrilla organizations; the Fuerzas Populares de Liberación Farabundo Martí (FPL), the People's Revolutionary Army (ERP), the Resistencia Nacional (RN), the Partido Comunista Salvadoreño (PCS) and the Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores Centroamericanos (PRTC). The FMLN was one of the main participants in the Salvadoran Civil War. After the Chapultepec Peace Accords were signed in 1992, all armed FMLN units were demobilized and their organization became a legal left-wing political party in El Salvador. Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. October 2014 Nicaragua Earthquake
The October 2014 Nicaragua earthquake occurred at with a moment magnitude of 7.3 off the coast of Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador. The shock resulted in four deaths and several injuries. Impact A homeless man sleeping on a sidewalk died when a power line fell on him. Two others also died from heart-attacks in San Miguel and Santiago de María respectively. In San Miguel, around 31 buildings, including five schools collapsed or were damaged, five of which were in San Salvador. One of the city's hospitals was also damaged. There was also major damage to buildings in the Department of Usulután, particularly the municipalities of Berlín and Alegría, where several buildings partially collapsed. The roads to the regional capital were partially blocked by landslides. Salvadoran Presidential Election, 2014
Presidential elections were held in El Salvador on 2 February 2014, with a second round held on 9 March since no candidate won an outright majority. The primary candidates were Vice-President Salvador Sánchez Cerén of the FMLN, San Salvador Mayor Norman Quijano of ARENA, and Former President Antonio "Tony" Saca. Saca represented GANA, the National Conciliation Party, and the Christian Democratic Party in the UNIDAD coalition. Incumbent President Mauricio Funes was ineligible to run for a consecutive second term. Sánchez Cerén and Quijano emerged as the contestants in the runoff held on 9 March in which Sánchez Cerén was declared the victor.
