2014 Philadelphia Union Season
The 2014 Philadelphia Union season is the club's fifth season of existence, competing in Major League Soccer, the top flight of American soccer. The club was initially managed by John Hackworth, in his third season (second full season) with the club. In June, Hackworth was fired from his role as head coach and assistant coach Jim Curtin was promoted on an interim basis. At the conclusion of the season, Curtin was officially made permanent head coach, making him the third head coach in the club's history. Philadelphia Union
The Philadelphia Union are an American professional soccer club based in Chester, Pennsylvania. The Union compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference. Founded on February 28, 2008, the club began playing in 2010 as an expansion team. The club's home stadium is Subaru Park, a soccer-specific stadium located in Chester, Pennsylvania on the banks of the Delaware River. The Union are currently owned by Keystone Sports & Entertainment, with Jay Sugarman serving as majority owner and chairman of the club. Professional basketball player Kevin Durant also serves as a minority owner. The club's current head coach is Jim Curtin. Curtin has been coaching the Union since 2014. Generation Adidas
Generation Adidas is a joint venture between Major League Soccer and U.S. Soccer aimed at raising the level of young professional soccer talent in the United States. The program, sponsored by Adidas, offers professional-ready players in the U.S. developmental system not yet eligible for the MLS SuperDraft early entry, allowing MLS to compete with foreign professional clubs without comparable restrictions on player signing. Ethan White
Norris Ethan White (born January 1, 1991) is a former American soccer player who plays as a defender. He last played for New York City FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). Early career In high school, White was a four-year starter for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons in the Montgomery County 3A Division, leading the team to the 2007 Maryland 3A State Championship defeating Bel Air High School 1–0. Amobi Okugo
Amobi Chidubem Okugo (born March 13, 1991) is an American soccer player who currently plays as a midfielder and defender for Austin Bold FC in the USL Championship. Career College Okugo grew up in Sacramento, California, attended Rio Americano High School and Jesuit High School, and played one year of college soccer at UCLA in 2009, where he was named the 2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. Professional Okugo was drafted in the first round (6th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Philadelphia Union. Michael Lahoud (french: Michel Lahoud, ar, مايكل لحود; born September 15, 1986) is a former Sierra Leonean footballer and current broadcaster for Austin FC. He also holds American citizenship. Career College Born in Freetown, Lahoud moved from his country to Annandale, Virginia in the United States when he was six years old. Sébastien Le Toux
Sébastien Le Toux (; born 10 January 1984) is a French retired professional Association football, footballer who spent the majority of his career in Major League Soccer, including six seasons at Philadelphia Union. Designated Player Rule
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. The rule is one of two mechanisms by which MLS teams may exceed their salary cap, the other being allocation money. As of December 2019, there have been 209 Designated Players in league history. James Andrew Wenger (born December 25, 1990) is an American former professional soccer player who played for eight seasons in Major League Soccer. College and amateur career Wenger made an immediate impact in his first year at Duke University. He started in all 21 matches, and finished with four goals and three assists in a team-leading 1,896 minutes of action.
