2014 Gulf Cup Of Nations
The 22nd Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, كأس الخليج العربي) was the 22nd edition of the biennial football competition, and took place between 13 and 26 November 2014 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was scheduled to take place in Basra, Iraq but was shifted after concerns over preparations and security. Iraq was also due to host the 2013 tournament, but this was moved to Bahrain instead. After being moved to Saudi Arabia, Jeddah was initially announced as the host city but was later moved to Riyadh. Qatar won the cup by defeating Saudi Arabia 2–1 in the final. Teams and Draw The draw took place on 12 August 2014. Ali Ahmed Mabkhout Mohsen Al Hajeri ( ar, علي أحمد مبخوت محسن الهاجري; born 5 October 1990) is an Emirati professional association football player who plays for UAE Pro League club Al Jazira and the United Arab Emirates national team. Coming through the youth system, Mabkhout made his debut for Al Jazira's first team in 2009. Club career Mabkhout made his AFC Champions League debut against Al Ittihad on 22 April 2009, after coming on as a substitute. The 18th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, was the كأس الخليج العربي) 18th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. It took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 17 to 30 January 2007. The tournament was won by hosts UAE, who beat neighbors Oman 1–0 in the final, courtesy of a goal by Ismail Matar who finished the tournament as top scorer with five goals in all. The UAE became the fifth country to lift the title after Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In the competition there was also some very serious disciplinary problems with a total of 38 yellow cards and 7 red cards awarded in only 12 matches. The 4th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, دورة كأس الخليج العربي الرابعة) was the fourth edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. The tournament was held in Doha, Qatar and was won by three-time defending champions Kuwait. The tournament took place between 26 March and 15 April 1976. All matches were played at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium. Iraq took part in the competition for the first time. Both Iraq and Kuwait finished level on points and goal difference in the round-robin group stage; thus, a play-off final was held to determine the champion. The 3rd Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, دورة كأس الخليج العربي الثالثة) was the third edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. The tournament was held in Kuwait City, Kuwait and was won by two-time defending champions and hosts Kuwait. The tournament took place between 15 and 29 March 1974. All matches were played at the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium. Oman took part in the competition for the first time. Kuwait defeated Saudi Arabia 4–0 in the final to win their third title in a row. The tournament was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and was won by defending champions Kuwait for the second time. The tournament took place between 16 and 28 March 1972. Kuwait won their second consecutive title, edging out Saudi Arabia on goal difference after both nations finished with equal points. This makes it the first time that the title was decided by goal difference. United Arab Emirates made their debut in the competition and finished third. The 20th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, كأس الخليج العربي) was the twentieth edition of the biannual Gulf Cup competition, and took place in Aden, Yemen, from 22 November to 5 December 2010. The tournament was held in Yemen for the first time in the tournament's history, and this edition celebrated the 40th anniversary of the cup as well as the 20th anniversary of the tournament. The 9th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, كأس الخليج العربي) was the 9th edition of this tournament. It was held between March 2 and March 18, 1988, in Saudi Arabia. It was the second time after 1972, that Saudi Arabia hosted this regional football tournament. The tournament was won by Iraq. It was the third title for Iraq after having won the tournament 1979 in Baghdad and 1984 in Muscat. All games were played at the newly built King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. The stadium was built to host the 1988 Gulf Cup and the FIFA World Youth Championship one year later.
