2014 Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The 2014 Galway Senior Hurling Championship was the 117th staging of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. The Preliminary Round and First Round draws were made on 11 March 2014 at the Salthill Hotel. Gort won the final on 14 December 2014. Format 22 teams contested the 2014 championship. The competition consisted of 2 full rounds of games (and two preliminary rounds), followed by a group stage and then quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final - as well as ''qualifier group'' to help decide which team will be relegated and a Shield Competition. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. The county football team was the first from the province of Connacht to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), but the second to appear in the final, following Mayo. Mullagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Mullagh, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Castlegar GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Castlegar in County Galway, Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. Overview It is believed that hurling has been played in Castlegar since the 1880s. No records exist regarding hurling in the area prior to that decade, however, local folklore has it that the parish had a hurling team prior to 1880. Most of the matches played by Castlegar in those days were played in Claregalway, Turloughmore and Oranmore. At the time the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1884, Castlegar was considered to be the best team in the west of the city of Galway. Tommy Larkin's Gaelic Athletic Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Ballinakill and Woodford areas of County Galway, Ireland which competes in the Galway Senior Hurling Championship. History Tommy Larkin's Gaelic Athletic Club was founded in 1968 with the amalgamation of both the Woodford and Ballinakill GAA clubs. Soon after amalgamation adult hurling flourished with the senior team winning the county title in 1971. However despite the efforts of many tireless workers the club struggled to compete in the late seventies and eighties due in the most part to emigration. In 1990 the club was relegated to the intermediate ranks, this prompted a renewed commitment to coaching at underage level. Kiltormer GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer areas outside Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Overview History Gaelic games in the Kiltormer area have been recorded as far back as 1897. Down through the years Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer affiliated separate teams, while Ganaveen and Tristaun also formed separate clubs. In 1969 a decision was finally made to bring the three areas together and form a club under one name. Kiltormer was chosen as the club name and the club colours were to be blue and white. Pádraig Pearse's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Ballymacward- Gurteen parish in County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1966, when the Gurteen and Ballymacward Junior Hurling clubs merged and was predominantly concerned with the game of hurling. There has always been a strong tradition of hurling in the parish, with one of the earliest recordings in local press dated to 1882. St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels.
