2013 WPA World Nine-ball Championship
The 2013 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was the 22nd event in the annual WPA World Nine-ball Championship. The event took place from September 2 to 13, 2013 in Doha, Qatar. Germany's Thorsten Hohmann became world champion by a 13–6 victory over Philippine Antonio Gabica, in the final. This was Hohmann's second 9-ball World championship, having also won the 2003 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Hohmann defeated defending champion Darren Appleton in an early stage of the event. Format The 128 participating players were divided into 16 groups, in which they competed in a double elimination tournament against each other. The remaining 64 players in each group qualified for the final round played in the knockout system. Prize money The event's prize money stayed similar to that of the previous years, with winner Thorsten Hohmann winning $36,000. ''Yukio Akakariyama'' (Japanese , Akakariyama Yukio; born 13 March 1975 in Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese pool player. In 2011, Yukio won the WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Career In November 2008, Akakariyama finished ninth at the Japan Open. In June 2009, he reached the semi-finals of the China Open. A month later, he made it to the final round of the 2009 WPA World Ten-ball Championship , in which he was defeated by the Taiwanese Chao Fong-Pang in the round of the last 64. In February 2010, he reached with the round of 16 at the 2010 French Open his best result on the Euro Tour. In April 2010 he reached the round of 16 of the 2010 WPA World Eight-ball Championship, where he lost to Ruslan Tschinachow. Li Hewen
Li Hewen (; born November 30, 1981, in Liaoning, China) is a Chinese professional pool player. He made it to the finals in the Vietnam leg of the 2006 WPA Asian Nine-ball Tour, but lost to Efren Reyes. In 2006, Li Hewen reached the semi-finals of the WPA World Nine-ball Championship, which was the farthest ever achieved by a player from China. However, his run came to an end upon facing Ronato Alcano who would later win the title. Fu Che-wei
Fu Che-wei born December 21, 1973 (Traditional Chinese: ; Tongyong Pinyin: Fù Ché-Wěi) is a Chinese Taipei professional pool player, nicknamed "the Draw Shot Prince." Career Fu made his first notable appearance when he finished among the top 32 competitors in the 2004 WPA World Nine-ball Championship (losing to Earl Strickland). He made a comeback at the 2006 event, he was eventually eliminated by runner-up Ralf Souquet in the semi-finals. The performance would win earn him a place in the following years event, but was eliminated in the second round to Mika Immonen. Che-Wei reached the final of the 2012 WPA World Eight-ball Championships; defeating Huidji See in the quarter-finals 9–4, and Liu Haitao 9–3 in the semi-final, before losing in the final to Chang Jung-lin 11–6. Radosław Babica
Radosław Babica (Born 18 July 1979) is Polish professional pool player from Kielce, who reached number 12 in the World Pool-Billiard Association world rankings in 2009. Career Babica final reached the European Pool Championships final of the 9-Ball event in 2007. He later also reached the final in the 10-Ball event and three more semi-final appearances at European Championships (one each in the 8-Ball, 9-ball and 14/1 endless). On the Euro Tour his best result so far was a second place - scored by the Costa del Sol Open 2007 held in Malaga. Babica is five-time champion of Poland in singles and also a four time national team champion. Mateusz Śniegocki
Mateusz Śniegocki (born 3 January 1985 in Poznan) is a Polish professional pool player. Śniegocki is a former 10-Ball European champion and three-time winner of events at the Euro Tour. Career Śniegocki started playing billiards in a club called "Hades" in 1999, winning 5 national junior titles before 2005. Śniegocki won his first Euro Tour event in 2013 at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Open, before winning the 10-Ball event at the European Pool Championships later that year.
