2013 Split Local Elections
The 2013 local elections were held in Split, Croatia on 19 May and 2 June 2013. The incumbent HGS mayor Željko Kerum was running for a full four-year term after winning the previous elections on 31 May 2009. Kerum had a very controversial term as mayor between 2009 and 2013, which resulted in losing in the first round of elections with 18.51% of the votes. The second round of elections was very tense. Ivo Baldasar
Ivo Baldasar (born 5 August 1958) is a Croatian politician who served as Mayor of Split from 2013 until his resignation in March 2017. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) until he was thrown out of the party in 2016. After that, he joined forces with the Bandić Milan 365 party. In 2017 he formed his own party called The Split Party. Political career Baldasar spent his early career working as a lawyer within the tourism industry, concentrating mainly on maritime business. He joined the SDP in 1998, and in 2009 became a city councilor for the city of Split. In 2012 he became the party's candidate for mayor of the city, winning the second round of elections over Vjekoslav Ivanišević to become the 71st mayor of Split. Croatian Growth ( hr, Hrvatski rast, acronym ''Hrast'' is a Croatian word for Oak tree) or Hrast-Movement for Successful Croatia was a political party in Croatia established in 2012. Social Democratic Action of Croatia ( hr, Akcija socijaldemokrata Hrvatske or ASH) was a Croatian left-wing political party. It was founded by 1994 by members of Social Democratic Party of Croatia dissatisfied with the centrist policies of SDP leader Ivica Račan and his lack of criticism towards Franjo Tuđman. The party had high hopes of gathering support beyond disenchanted SDP voters after Croatian Spring leader Miko Tripalo left Croatian People's Party in order to join them. In 1994, they tried to force an all-left party coalition in Croatia for the upcoming elections. The idea was rejected by Ivica Račan and SDP so they failed to realise it. Ivan Grubišić
Ivan Grubišić (20 June 1936 – 19 March 2017) was a Croatian Roman Catholic priest, sociologist, and politician. He served in the Croatian Parliament from 2011 to 2015. Early life and education Ivan Grubišić was born in Dicmo in a poor family. He had seven brothers and sisters. His father Jure and one of the brothers were killed by the Yugoslav Partisans. His mother worked as a seamstress. After finishing elementary school, Grubišić enrolled in the Catholic gymnasium in Split, graduating in 1956. During his time in high school he played the organ. Grubišić received a degree in theology in 1962 at the Catholic Faculty of Theology of the University of Zagreb, and also a degree in sociology and philosophy at the University of Zadar in 1982.
