2012–13 BCHL Season
The 2012-13 BCHL season was the 51st season of the British Columbia Hockey League. (BCHL) The sixteen teams from the Coastal and Mainland Conferences will play 56 game schedules, starting with the 2012 BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack, BC. Come March, the top teams from each division will play for the Fred Page Cup, the BCHL Championship. The winner of the Fred Page Cup will compete in the first-ever Western Canadian Junior A championship, the Western Canada Cup in Nanaimo, BC. If successful against the winners of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League and the Western Canada Cup host, the champion and runner-up would then move on to play for the Canadian Junior Hockey League championship, the Royal Bank Cup, in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. British Columbia Hockey League
The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league from British Columbia under Hockey Canada and BC Hockey. Founded in Vernon in 1961, the BCHL now includes 18 teams. From 1993 to 2021, the league was a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), an association of Junior A leagues across Canada that would play for the National Junior A Championship. The winner of the BCHL playoffs (Fred Page Cup) would continue on to play the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion in the Doyle Cup for the right to then compete in the National Junior A Championship. In 2021, the BCHL left the CJHL. Prince George Spruce Kings
The Prince George Spruce Kings are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Mainland Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Kopar Memorial Arena, which has a capacity of 2,112. The Spruce Kings won their first Fred Page Cup in the 2018/2019 BCHL Season. The Spruce Kings had a playoff record of 16-1, sweeping the last 3 playoff rounds, including the championship series. History Founded in 1972, the Spruce Kings originally were a part of the Pacific Northwest Hockey League. In 1975, the Spruce Kings and the neighboring Quesnel Millionaires joined the Peace Junior B Hockey League, which renamed itself the Peace-Cariboo Junior Hockey League. Langley Rivermen
The Langley Rivermen are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Mainland Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). History The BCHL franchise was founded as the Richmond Sockeyes in 1972 in the Pacific Junior A Hockey League. In 1990, Sockeyes dropped to the junior B level and sold the junior A franchise to become the Chilliwack Chiefs. In 2006, the Chilliwack Bruins of the Western Hockey League were founded and the Chiefs moved to become the Langley Chiefs. In 2011, the Chiefs changed ownership and became the Langley Rivermen, allowing for the return of the Chiefs to Chilliwack. Coquitlam Express
The Coquitlam Express are a Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Coastal Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex. Although the team had played in the neighbouring city of Burnaby for the previous five years, on 14 January 2010 it was announced that the BCHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the relocation of the franchise back to Coquitlam for the 2010–11 season. History The Coquitlam Express began play as a new franchise in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) for the 2001–02 hockey season, and played in the city for four seasons at the Coquitlam Sports Centre. Powell River Kings
The Powell River Kings are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Powell River, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Coastal Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Hap Parker Arena. History Powell River joined the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) for the start of the 1988–89 season with the name the "Paper Kings", when they assumed the Delta Flyers franchise. Alberni Valley Bulldogs
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are a Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Island Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Weyerhaeuser Arena. History The Bulldogs were founded as an expansion team in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in Burnaby, British Columbia, in 1998. They were moved to Port Alberni in 2002. After being run as a community owned franchise for many years, the club was sold on July 18th, 2019. The BCHL board of governors granted unanimous approval for Keycorp Sports & Entertainment Ltd to acquire a majority share in the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Joining Keycorp Sports and Entertainment are Ron Coutre of Victoria, Luke Betts of Coquitlam, Dennis See, Stefanie Weber and Tim Maclean all of Port Alberni. Nanaimo Clippers
The Nanaimo Clippers are a Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Island Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Frank Crane Arena. Franchise history The original owner, Cliff McNabb, drew inspiration for the Clippers name from the local teams of the Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association prior to 1972 which carried the clippers name. The Nanaimo Clippers won the league championship in the 1976 playoffs but lost by default for the Mowat Cup (Provincial Championship). The Clippers were once again league champions in 1978 when the Penticton Vees refused to play the balance of the series (citing rough play – the series stood at 2 games to 1). The Victoria Grizzlies are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Victoria, British Columbia. They are members of the Island Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The Trail Smoke Eaters are a junior A ice hockey team from Trail, British Columbia, Canada. They are a part of the British Columbia Hockey League. Vernon Vipers
The Vernon Vipers are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Interior Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Kal Tire Place. History The Vernon Jr. Canadians, Penticton Jr. Vees, Kelowna Buckaroos and Kamloops Rockets, four junior "B" teams, formed the Okanagan-Mainline Junior Hockey League in 1961 on the advice and determination of Canadians owner Bill Brown. After their inaugural season the Canadians changed their name to "Vernon Blades" and kept that name until the start of the 1967–68 season. In the playoffs of 1970 the "Vernon Essos", as they were called, captured the league championship and Mowat Cup (BC).
