Vernon Vipers
The Vernon Vipers are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Interior Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Kal Tire Place. History The Vernon Jr. Canadians, Penticton Jr. Vees, Kelowna Buckaroos and Kamloops Rockets, four junior "B" teams, formed the Okanagan-Mainline Junior Hockey League in 1961 on the advice and determination of Canadians owner Bill Brown. After their inaugural season the Canadians changed their name to "Vernon Blades" and kept that name until the start of the 1967–68 season. In the playoffs of 1970 the "Vernon Essos", as they were called, captured the league championship and Mowat Cup (BC). Vernon, British Columbia
Vernon is a city in the Okanagan region of the Southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is northeast of Vancouver. Named after Forbes George Vernon, a former MLA of British Columbia who helped establish the Coldstream Ranch in nearby Coldstream, the City of Vernon was incorporated on December 30, 1892. They have won the AJHL championship nine times and one national championship. Kimberley Dynamiters (KIJHL)
The Kimberley Dynamiters are a Junior "B" Ice Hockey team based in Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Eddie Mountain Division of the Kootenay Conference of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). They play their home games at Kimberley Civic Centre. The team began play in 1991, in the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League. Kimberley also had a team, the Knights, in the KIJHL between 1972 and 1989. History The Kimberley Dynamiters name was previously used by Kimberley's now defunct senior hockey clubs that played in the WKHL, the ABCSL, and the WIHL between 1932 and 1981. Chilliwack Chiefs (1990–2006)
The Chilliwack Chiefs were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. They were a part of the British Columbia Hockey League and played in the Mainland Division/Coastal Conference. The BCHL franchise was founded as the Richmond Sockeyes in 1972 in the Pacific Junior A Hockey League. In 1990, Sockeyes returned to the junior B level and sold the franchise to become the Chilliwack Chiefs. Chilliwack previously had teams such as the Chilliwack Bruins from 1970 until 1976, who moved to Maple Ridge, British Columbia, and the Chilliwack Colts from 1978 until 1981 who seem to have become the Langley Eagles and later the Chilliwack Eagles from 1987 until 1989. The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada. It is under the supervision of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The league was listed as the 7th best developmental league in North America for professional and amateur ice hockey in July 2013 by the website, "TheHockeyWriters.com". The league dates back to 1954 where it began as the "Central Junior B Hockey League". In 1993, the Central Junior B Hockey League was promoted to the Junior A level and renamed the "Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League". The Newmarket Hurricanes were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Newmarket, Ontario. They played in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The franchise existed from 1972 until 2019, based in Newmarket starting in 1975. History In 1972, the Seneca Flyers became a part of the OPJHL. In 1975, they bought out the Newmarket Redmen of the Mid-Ontario Junior B Hockey League and moved to become the Newmarket Flyers. The Redmen dated back to the 1920s and were at one point a top level Junior "C" team. Although the official story is that the Hurricanes got their start in the late 1980s as the Newmarket 87's, the franchise that spawned this team existed long before it. The Spruce Grove Saints are a junior A ice hockey team in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). They play in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada, with home games at Grant Fuhr Arena. History The Saints' franchise is the only franchise remaining from the inception of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). The franchise began as the Edmonton Movers in 1963 before it merged with the Edmonton Maple Leafs organization to become the Edmonton Mets for the 1972–73 season. The West Kelowna Warriors are a relocated franchise, moving to West Kelowna in 2006 from Langley, British Columbia. History Langley Thunder/Hornets Langley was originally granted a British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) franchise in 1973 called the Langley Lords. The team played as the Lords through the 1975–76 season. In those three years they had very decent regular seasons, making it to the playoffs each year, including a loss in the league finals in their first season. In 1976 the Lords changed their name to the Langley Thunder. Their regular season performance diminished each year and they missed the playoffs for the first time in the franchise's history in the 1978–79 season.
