2012 Suomen Cup
The 2012 Finnish Cup ( fi, Suomen Cup) is the 58th season of the main annual association football cup competition in Finland. It is organised as a single-elimination knock–out tournament. Participation in the competition is voluntary. A total of 198 teams registered for the competition, with 12 teams from the Veikkausliiga, 10 from the Ykkönen, 28 from the Kakkonen, 54 from the Kolmonen and 94 teams from other divisions. The tournament started on 6 January 2012 with the first match of Round 1. Many matches in the early rounds are played on artificial pitches in indoor halls. Teams Round 1 In this round 34 clubs entered from the Finnish fourth level and below, while the other 109 clubs from the lower divisions received byes to the next round. FC Honka
FC Honka is a Finnish football club based in Espoo. It was founded in 1957 as Tapion Honka, and changed its name to FC Honka in 1975. The club currently play in the Finnish premier division (''Veikkausliiga''), having been promoted for the first time in their history at the end of the 2005 season. It plays its home matches at the Tapiolan Urheilupuisto. FC Honka is largely renowned in Finland for its extensive youth scheme with over 1,000 youth players playing in various age groups. Seiska (football)
Seiska or VII divisioona is the seventh level in the Finnish football league system. The number of teams that compete each season can vary. The VII divisioona was introduced in 1973 and in the mid-2000’s it became known as the Seiska (''Number Seven'' in English and ''Sjuan'' in Swedish). In theory, Seiska is the last league in Finland where a club can go all the way and become Veikkausliiga champions. Competition The clubs in the Seiska are divided in 2 groups decided by geographical location. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) teams play each other once. The groups then split approximately in half and the clubs play another round of one match against each other. The top teams in each Seiska group are normally promoted to the Kutonen. Soccer Club Kuopio Futis-98
SC Kuopio Futis-98 (abbreviated SC KuFu-98 or KuFu-98) is a football club from Kuopio, Finland. The club was formed in 1998 and their home ground is Savon Sanomat Areena. Background SC KuFu-98 was established in 1998, the club's inaugural meeting being attended by Leo Pohjolainen, Jarmo Hämäläinen, Heikki Kärkkäinen, Markku Korhonen, Pekka Toivanen, Janne Koskinen and Mikko Kolehmainen. Kajaanin Haka
Kajaanin Haka (abbreviated KajHa) is a football club from Kajaani in Finland. The club was formed in 1953 and their home ground is at the Kajaanin liikuntapuisto. The men's football first team currently plays in the Kolmonen (Third Division). The Chairman of KajHa is Jarmo Anttonen. Background KajHa was founded on 15 March 1953 and in the early years the club was known as Hevossuon Haka. The change to the current name was made on 23 January 1963. Euran Pallo (abbreviated EuPa) is a football club from Eura, Finland. The club was formed in 1954 and their home ground is at the Euran Wembley. The men's first team currently plays in the Kolmonen (Third Division). Background Euran Pallo was established in 1954 by taking over the football section of the existing Euran Raiku sports club. EuPa spent many seasons in the lower divisions of the Finnish football league in their early history. However the club's fortunes changed dramatically at the end of the 1990 season when EuPa gained promotion to the Kakkonen (Second Division) for the first time. Soccer Club Riverball is a football club from Joensuu in Finland. The club was formed in 2006 and their home ground is at the Rantakylä. Lehmon Pallo-77 (abbreviated LehPa) is a football club from Lehmo, Kontiolahti in Eastern Finland. The club was formed in 1977 and at one time was also active in volleyball and ice-hockey. The men's football first team currently plays in the Kolmonen (Third Division). Their home ground is at the Lehmon urheilukeskus. Joensuun Palloseura (abbreviated JoPS) is a football club from Joensuu, Finland. JoPS is Joensuu's oldest football club having been formed in 1929. The club has competed in the second tier of Finnish football over 6 seasons, the last time being in 1968. JoPS currently plays in the Kolmonen section that covers Eastern and Central Finland. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any).
