2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125. It was the first time since 2007 (and only the third time in Quebec history) that a minority government would be formed, as no party won an absolute majority of the seats. Both the PQ and Liberal vote declined which boosted support for the CAQ and Quebec Solidaire. Amir Khadir
Amir Khadir ( fa, امیر خدیر; born June 12, 1961) is a Canadian politician in the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA), Canada for the electoral district of Mercier, and the first male spokesperson for Québec solidaire, a sovereigntist and left-wing political party which was created by the merger of the Union des Forces Progressistes and Option Citoyenne, a feminist political movement, in February 2006. On December 8, 2008, Khadir became the first, and at that time, only elected representative for Québec solidaire in the general election in Quebec. In 2012, Françoise David was elected in Gouin, making her the second elected representative for Québec solidaire. Khadir served alongside David as Quebec solidaire's spokespersons and ''de facto'' leaders from the party's founding until November 2012, when he stepped down to allow the party to choose a new male co-spokesperson from outside the legislature in accordance with party statutes. The PQ advocates national sovereignty for Quebec involving independence of the province of Quebec from Canada and establishing a sovereign state. Pierre Duchesne
Pierre Duchesne (born February 27, 1940) was the 28th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec and former secretary general of the National Assembly of Quebec. As lieutenant governor he was the viceregal representative of Queen Elizabeth II of Canada in the Province of Quebec. His appointment was made by Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean, on the Constitutional advice of Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper, and announced on May 18, 2007. Biography With a Bachelor of Arts degree from the seminary of Chicoutimi and a licentiate in law from Laval University, Duchesne became a notary in Sept-Îles in 1966. Nicolet-Yamaska (electoral District)
Nicolet-Yamaska is a former provincial electoral district in the Centre-du-Québec and Montérégie regions of Quebec, Canada that elected members to the National Assembly of Quebec. As of its final election, it included the cities or municipalities of Pierreville, Nicolet, Bécancour, Sainte-Eulalie, Daveluyville, Saint-Leonard-d'Aston, Saint-Wenceslas and Saint-Gerard-Majella as well as portions of the city of Drummondville. It was created for the 1973 election from parts of Nicolet and its final election was in 1976. It disappeared in the 1981 election and Nicolet was recreated. Nicolet disappeared again in the 1989 election, for which Nicolet-Yamaska was recreated. Nicolet-Yamaska's final election was in 2008. Jean-Martin Aussant
Jean-Martin Aussant () is a Canadian economist, musician, and politician, now serving as Executive director of the Chantier de l' économie sociale. He represented Nicolet-Yamaska in the National Assembly of Quebec from 2008 to 2012, first as a member of the Parti Québécois and then as leader of his own party, Option nationale. He was defeated when he ran for re-election in Nicolet-Bécancour in the 2012 general election. He later rejoined the Parti Québécois to run unsuccessfully in the 2018 Quebec election. Early life and career Aussant was born in Sorel, Quebec. He has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Université Laval (1993) and a master's degree in Economic Analysis from the Université de Montréal (1995).
