2012 Donegal Senior Football Championship
The 2012 Donegal Senior Football Championship was contested by senior Gaelic football clubs under the auspices of Donegal GAA. Format There was a preliminary round. The first round involved eight two-legged ties played home and away. The eight winning teams progressed to the quarter-finals from which the four winning teams progressed to the semifinals from which the two winning teams progressed to the final. The 2012 Senior Championship finished later than usual, postponed due to the Donegal senior inter-county team's involvement in the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, which they won on 23 September 2012. The 2012 Senior Championship got back underway a week later. With interest in Gaelic football at an all-time high after the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, the Senior County Final was broadcast live nationwide on TG4. Donegal GAA
The Donegal County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Dhún na nGall) or Donegal GAA is one of 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Donegal. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Donegal county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the third from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan and Down. CLG Na Cealla Beaga
CLG na Cealla Beaga is a GAA club based in Killybegs, County Donegal, Ireland. They have won the Donegal Senior Football Championship on six occasions, most recently in 1996. They have an intense rivalry with Cill Chartha. History Founded in 1924, the club have had teams break up several times in their history. They play football only, though — in the past — played hurling too. From 1967, the team played at the coastal venue Fintra Park, subsequently renamed McDevitt Park; that year Donegal and Mayo played a game to mark its opening. Rory Kavanagh
Rory Kavanagh ( ga, Ruairí Ó Caomhánach; born 23 August 1982) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player with St Eunan's and the Donegal county team. He currently manages the St Eunan's club. Alongside Colm McFadden and Christy Toye, he would have been considered one of the experienced members of the Donegal senior football panel in his final days. Ross Wherity
Ross Wherity is an Irish sportsperson. A Gaelic footballer with the St Eunan's club, he has been a member of the Donegal county team at under-21, minor and senior levels. Known for his tendency not to settle with one team (or even one sport), Wherity has also been in Australia to play Australian rules football, in Poland as part of an attempt to make it at a major soccer tournament and was last known to be playing Championship football for the New York county team. Ballybofey
Ballybofey ( , ; ) is a town located on the south bank of the River Finn, County Donegal, Ireland. Together with the smaller town of Stranorlar on the north side of the River Finn, the towns form the Twin Towns of Ballybofey-Stranorlar. Ballybofey-Stranorlar, a census town, had a population of 4,852 in 2016. History A few miles west of Ballybofey, on the main road to Fintown (the R252 regional road), is the Glenmore Estate, located at Welchtown. The estate formerly included Glenmore Lodge, a country house that stood on the opposite, southern bank of the River Finn, near Glenmore Bridge. The house was originally built in the Georgian-style in the mid-to-late-18th-century. It was reworked for Sir William Styles in the neo-Tudor-style in the early 20th century. MacCumhaill Park
MacCumhaill Park ( ga, Páirc Sheáin Mhic Cumhaill) is a GAA stadium in Ballybofey, County Donegal, Ireland. It is the home ground of the Seán MacCumhaills club and Donegal's Gaelic football and hurling teams. The ground is named after Seán MacCumhaill and had a capacity of 13,000, but that was reduced to 12,250 after a safety audit report was released in February 2012. O'Donnell Park
O' Donnell Park ( ga, Páirc uí Dhomhnail) is a GAA stadium in County Donegal, Ireland. The home ground of the St Eunan's club, it is situated between the Letterkenny Regional Sports and Leisure Complex and Ballymacool Park on the outskirts of the town. The Donegal county football team uses O'Donnell Park as a venue for matches (as does the county hurling team). History The ground has hosted Gaelic games since the 1930s when the St Eunan's club bought the land for £300. St Michael's (''CLG Naomh Mícheál'') is a GAA club based in Creeslough/Dunfanaghy in County Donegal. Located in the north of the county, the club is affected by rural issues such as low population and emigration; despite this they play at the top level in the Donegal Senior Football Championship and opened a new clubhouse in 2010. Four Masters is a GAA club located in the town of Donegal in County Donegal, Ireland. They are one of the strongholds of Gaelic football in Donegal. History Based in the parishes of Townawilly and Killymard, Donegal Town, Four Masters is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Donegal having won 3 Donegal Senior Football Championships. The GAA club under Warwickshire County Board in Coventry, England, is named after the Four Masters club in Donegal. CLG Ard an Rátha is a GAA club based in Ardara in County Donegal. The ''Ard an Rátha'' in the club's title is the place name in Irish, while ''CLG'' refers to "GAA".
