2011–12 Belgian Second Division
The 2011–12 season of the Belgian Second Division (also known as EXQI League for sponsorship reasons) started in August 2011 and is the second tier football league in Belgium. The league is played by 18 teams, with 34 matchdays of 9 matches each, so each team plays the 17 other teams twice. The season is divided into 3 periods, the first period of 10 matches, the second of 12 matches and the third of 12 matches. Each period winner qualifies for the Belgian Second Division Final Round. On 14 April 2012, Charleroi became champions without playing as closest rivals Eupen and Oostende both did not manage to win their matches and thereby could no longer mathematically overtake Charleroi in the standings. Belgian Second Division
The Belgian Second Division (known as the Proximus League for sponsorship reasons) was the second-highest division in the Belgian football league system, one level below the Belgian Pro League. It was founded by the Royal Belgian Football Association in 1909 and folded in 2016, when it was replaced by the Belgian First Division B. History The second division was created in 1909 and was known as the Promotion nl, bevordering at the time. From 1923 on there were two leagues in that division (called Promotion A and Promotion B). In 1926, the system changed, with only one league of 14 clubs at the second-highest level now called Division I. At the end of the 1930–31 season, Division I was split into two leagues again (of 14 clubs each). Vital Borkelmans
Vital Philomene Borkelmans (born 10 June 1963) is a Belgian football coach and a former left fullback who mainly played for Club Brugge (350 matches with that club), in the Belgian First Division. He also played for Patro Eisden, SV Waregem, Gent and Cercle Brugge. Vital played with Belgium and was in the team for the 1994 and 1998 World Cups. In January 2010, he was appointed manager of Dender EH in the Belgian Second Division, but fired following the relegation to the Belgian Third Division following the 2011–12 season. In July 2012, Vital Borkelmans was revealed as assistant manager to Marc Wilmots for the Belgium national football team. Dennis Van Wijk
Dennis Johannes van Wijk (; born 16 December 1962) is a Dutch football coach and former football player. He is currently unemployed after most recently managing Oostende in the Belgian First Division A. Van Wijk was a left-back who began his career in the youth system of Ajax Amsterdam. He was unable to break into the first team and joined Norwich City F.C. in 1982. He spent four years at Carrow Road and was a member of the Norwich teams that won the English League Cup in 1985 and the Second Division Championship in 1986. In that 1985 final, Van Wijk conceded a penalty kick when he handled in the area. To the relief of Van Wijk and Norwich, Clive Walker of Sunderland missed the penalty and Norwich won 1–0. Stéphane Auguste Ernest Demol (born 11 March 1966) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as a central defender, and a current manager. He amassed Belgian First Division A totals of 120 games and 11 goals over the course of seven seasons, mainly with Anderlecht and Standard Liège with which he won eight major titles combined. Arnauld Mercier (born 4 June 1972) is a French football manager and a former player. He spent most of his career playing in the French Ligue 2 and Championnat National, but had a spell in Italy where he played three seasons in Serie B. Boussu
Boussu (; pcd, Boussu-dlé-Mont) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. As of January 1, 2006, Boussu had a population of 20,058.
