2011 German Formula Three Championship
The 2011 ATS Formel 3 Cup was the ninth edition of the German F3 Cup and the last one with FIA specification F3 engines. For the 2012 season, the series will use Volkswagen engines only. The season began on 23 April at Oschersleben and finished on 2 October at Hockenheim after nine race weekends, totalling eighteen races. New Zealander Richie Stanaway clinched title on the penultimate round, becoming the first Kiwi to win the championship. Danish driver Marco Sørensen, despite missing the round at Assen, finished the season as runner-up. Third place was claimed by Austrian Klaus Bachler. Maxim Travin won the Trophy class after seven wins. Teams and drivers Calendar The provisional 2011 calendar consisted of nine meetings of which five were due to take place in Germany. German Formula Three Championship
The German Formula Three Championship was the national Formula Three championship of Germany, and the former West Germany, from 1950 to 2002, then as Formel 3 until 2014. In 2003, the series had merged with the French Formula Three Championship to form the Formula 3 Euro Series. The lower-level series, the ATS Formel 3 Cup, subsequently operated in Germany, but it folded after the end of the 2014 season. Tom Leonard Blomqvist (born 30 November 1993) is a New Zealand-based, Britain-born Swedish professional racing driver, and BMW Motorsport works driver, currently racing in the 2022 IMSA SportsCar Championship with Meyer Shank Racing. Blomqvist won the 2022 24 Hours of Daytona with Meyer Shank. He is the son of 1984 Swedish World Rally Champion, Stig Blomqvist, and raced under a Swedish racing licence until March 2010. René Binder
René Binder (born 1 January 1992) is an Austrian racing driver. He is the nephew of former Formula One driver Hans Binder, and his father, Franz, was also a racing driver. Career Binder was born in Innsbruck. He began his racing career in karting in 2002, remaining in the category until 2008. During this time, he finished third in the German Junior Kart Championship in 2007 and was runner-up in the German Challenger Kart Championship in 2008. Sandro Zeller (born 16 November 1991 in Uster) is a Swiss race car driver. He is son of the twelve-time Swiss Formula Three champion Jo Zeller who founded team Jo Zeller Racing. Filip Salaquarda (born January 11, 1984 in Prague) is a professional racing driver from the Czech Republic. Career Early career After an early career in karting, Salaquarda began his racing career in 2000 in his native Czech Republic, competing in the Ford Puma Cup where he finished in third place. Gary Thompson (born 31 May 1992 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish racecar driver. Career Thompson started racing in karts in 2003, finishing 5th in the Cadet Irish Championship. His karting career continued in the British Cadet Championship and later the British JICA Championship, where he finished 6th in 2006 and 3rd in 2007. In 2009 Thompson moved into Formula Cars and raced in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship, winning the opening race at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia.
