2009–10 Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The 2009–10 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 108th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league was officially named ''Soproni Liga'' for sponsorship reasons. The season began on 24 July 2009 and ended on 23 May 2010. Debrecen were the defending champions, and they defended their title. Promotion and relegation from 2008–09 BFC Siófok and Rákospalotai EAC finished the season in the last two places and thus were relegated to their respective NB II divisions. Siófok ended a two-year stint in Hungary's highest football league while Rákospalota were relegated after four years. Promotion to the league was achieved by the champions of the NB II Eastern Division, Ferencvárosi TC and by the runners-up of the Western Division, Lombard-Pápa TFC. Nemzeti Bajnokság I
The Nemzeti Bajnokság (, "National Championship"), also known as NB I, is the top level of the Hungarian football league system. The league is officially named OTP Bank Liga after its title sponsor OTP Bank. UEFA currently ranks the league 28th in Europe. Twelve teams compete in the league, playing each other three times, once at home, once away, and the third match is played at the stadium that the last match was not played at. At the end of the season, the top team enters the qualification for the UEFA Champions League, while the runner-up and the third place, together with the winner of the Magyar Kupa enter the UEFA Europa Conference League qualification rounds. The bottom two clubs are relegated to Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second-level league, to be replaced by the winner and the runner up of the NB2. The 2008–09 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, was the 107th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league was officially named ''Soproni Liga'' for sponsoring reasons. The season started on 25 July 2008 with Kaposvári Rákóczi FC beating the defending champions MTK Budapest by 3–1. The last games were played on 30 May 2009. Promotion and relegation FC Sopron withdrew their participation in the winter break of last year's season after they declared bankruptcy. The team was put into last place and got all points deducted. The remaining relegation spot was earned by FC Tatabánya, who finished the season with a mere 10 points. Promotion to the league was granted to the champions of the two NB II divisions. Paksi FC (''Paks'') () is a Hungary, Hungarian association football, football club based in Paks. Since its founding in 1952, it has played at either a county or national level. In 2006, it ascended to ''Borsodi Liga'', or NB I, the top division in Hungarian football, for the first time. It plays its home games at Fehérvári úti Stadion. The team colors are green and white. MTK Budapest FC
Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club or shortly MTK is a Hungarian football club based in Józsefváros, Budapest. The team currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II. The club's colours are blue and white. As one of the most successful Hungarian football clubs, MTK has won the Hungarian League 23 times and the Hungarian Cup 12 times. The club has also won the Hungarian Super Cup twice. Budapest Honvéd Football Club (), commonly known as Budapest Honvéd or simply Honvéd, is a Hungarian sports club based in Kispest, Budapest, with the colours of red and black. Ferencvárosi Torna Club, known as Ferencváros (), Fradi, or simply FTC, is a professional football club based in Ferencváros, Budapest, Hungary, that competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, the top flight of Hungarian football. Ferencváros was founded in 1899 by Ferenc Springer and a group of local residents of Budapest's ninth district, Ferencváros. Rákospalotai EAC
Rákospalotai EAC is a Hungarian football club based in the Rákospalota quarter in the north-east of Budapest. REAC were promoted to the Nemzeti Bajnokság I., the first division in Hungarian football, after the 2005/06 season, but the team was relegated to the Hungarian National Championship II after the 2008/09 season. The football team plays its home matches at Laszló Budai II Stadium. History 1912 to 1991: Founding to the end of Volán A team named REAC was founded in the Budapest neighborhood Rákospalota in 1912, but operations ended in the 1940s. Football continued, however, in the neighborhood with the best known teams being ''Fősped Szállítók'' and ''Volán'', the latter of which entered the NB I. in 1979.
