2009 Victoria Cup
The 2009 Victoria Cup was the second edition of the Victoria Cup challenge, played on September 29, 2009 between the 2008–09 Champions Hockey League winner ZSC Lions and the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). The ZSC Lions won the game 2–1. ZSC Lions The ZSC Lions qualified to play for the 2009 Victoria Cup by winning the 2008–09 Champions Hockey League competition. The ZSC Lions from Switzerland won the competition by beating Russia's Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the finals. Metallurg Magnitogorsk played in the inaugural 2008 Victoria Cup game. Chicago Blackhawks The Chicago Blackhawks were named on May 10, 2009 to represent the NHL. The Blackhawks made it to the Western Conference Finals in 2008, eventually losing to the Detroit Red Wings. They would go on in the 2009 season to clinch the 2nd seed in the Western Conference and win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961. Patrik Bärtschi
Patrik Bärtschi (born 20 August 1984) is a Swiss professional ice hockey Winger currently playing for ZSC Lions of the National League A (NLA). Playing career Bärtschi was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, going 202nd overall. Bärtschi attended several training camps with the Penguins, but instead chose to continue his career in Switzerland. From 2001 until 2006, Bärtschi was a member of the Kloten Flyers. He skated with SC Bern from 2006 until 2009. Dustin Byfuglien
Dustin Byfuglien ( ; born March 27, 1985) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He previously played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets. Drafted as a defenseman, he has played both forward and defense in his career, although he has generally played defense in recent years. Byfuglien helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 2010. Byfuglien is the first black American-born player to win the Stanley Cup. Early life Byfuglien was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Cheryl Byfuglien and Rick Spencer. His mother is of Norwegian and Swedish descent, and his father is African-American. Mathias Seger
Mathias Seger (born 17 December 1977) is a Swiss former professional ice hockey defenceman who played for the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers and the ZSC Lions of the National League (NL). Seger began his professional career with SC Rapperswil-Jona in 1996. He played three seasons with Rapperswil-Jona before joining the Lions in 1999. With the Swiss men's national team he won a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships. Seger also won the 2009 Champions League as well as six National League titles, all with the ZSC Lions. He will be inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2020. Playing career Seger was selected to play for the Switzerland men's national ice hockey team at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Blaine Down (born July 16, 1982) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with EC VSV in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). Playing career Down played major junior hockey with the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he was active from 1999 to 2002, winning in 2000 the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions. He then played three years for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL), before joining Ritten Sport in Italy's Serie A in 2005. Boarding in ice hockey and ringette is a penalty called when an offending player pushes, trips or checks an opposing player violently into the boards (walls) of the hockey rink. This article deals chiefly with ice hockey. In ice hockey, the boarding call is quite often a major penalty due to the likelihood of injury sustained by the player who was boarded, and officials have the discretion to call a game misconduct or a match penalty (if they feel the offense was a deliberate attempt to injure) on the offending player. However, in the North American professional ice hockey league, the NHL, if a major penalty is assessed and the boarded player sustains a head or facial injury, the offending player receives an automatic game misconduct. Interference (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions.
