Blaine Down
Blaine Down (born July 16, 1982) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with EC VSV in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). Playing career Down played major junior hockey with the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he was active from 1999 to 2002, winning in 2000 the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions. He then played three years for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL), before joining Ritten Sport in Italy's Serie A in 2005. Then he played for two years in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen with the Herning Blue Fox, helping the team win the 2007 and 2008 Danish championship. He signed with the ZSC Lions organization of the Swiss National League A starting with the 2008-09 season, also playing at Zurich's farm team, the GCK Lions of the National League B. Italian Hockey League - Serie A, formerly known as Serie A, is the top tier of professional ice hockey in Italy, which first began play in 1925. They are conducted under the authority of the Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio (FISG). The league initially merged with the Inter-National League to become the Alps Hockey League in 2016. The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called "PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga") (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a German professional ice hockey league and the highest division in German ice hockey. The Champions Hockey League was a short-lived ice hockey tournament which was launched in 2008 by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) after adopting the proposal put forth by Ovation Sports AG, and only played in the 2008–09 Champions Hockey League, 2008–09 season. Its creation coincided with the IIHF's 100th anniversary and replaced the IIHF European Champions Cup, the previous competition for Europe's top ice hockey teams. The financial reward for progressing to the CHL Group Stage was a portion of the 16.9 million Swiss francs that was distributed between the teams with a 1,000,000 Swiss francs bonus going to the winner; the largest monetary reward ever given in any European ice hockey competition. The Swiss League is the second tier of the main professional ice hockey league in Switzerland, behind the National League. The winners of the league each season plays a best-of-seven series against the bottom team of the NL, and if they win, they are promoted, while the National League team is relegated to the Swiss League. Grasshopper Club Küsnacht Lions known as GCK Lions is a Swiss professional ice hockey team founded in 1932. They are currently playing in the Swiss League (SL), Switzerland's second tier ice hockey division, as the affiliate to the ZSC Lions. The home arena is KEK Küsnacht (capacity 2,800).
