2008–09 Cheltenham Town F.C. Season
During the 2008–09 English football season, Cheltenham Town F.C. competed in Football League One. Season summary A 4–1 defeat at Hartlepool United saw manager Keith Downing depart by mutual consent in September. His replacement was Martin Allen, the son of former Robins manager Dennis. Allen was unable to improve results enough for Cheltenham to escape the drop. Kit Italian company Erreà continued as Cheltenham's kit manufacturers, while Cheltenham-based plumbing company Mira Showers began sponsoring the kits. For the first time in 15 years, Cheltenham wore kits with no stripes, with Erreà instead opting for a plain red design with asymmetric white trim. The away kit was yellow with red piping. Cheltenham (), also known as Cheltenham Spa, is a spa town and borough on the edge of the Cotswolds in the county of Gloucestershire, England. Shane Peter Higgs (born 13 May 1977) is an English former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He made 306 appearances in the Football League and Football Conference between 1996 and 2012, most notably spending ten years at Cheltenham Town. Career Early career Born in Oxford, Oxfordshire, Higgs began his career as a trainee at Bristol Rovers. He joined York City on loan in September 1995, but failed to make any appearances for the team. He made his league debut for Rovers on 19 November 1996 in a 2–1 defeat to Burnley. John Finnigan
John Francis Finnigan (born 29 March 1976) is an English football coach and former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder in the Football League for Lincoln City and Cheltenham Town after starting his career with Nottingham Forest. He later had spells in Non-League for Kidderminster Harriers, Bishop's Cleeve and Shortwood United. He had a brief spell in charge of Kidderminster in 2009. Playing career Born in Wakefield, Finnigan began his career with Nottingham Forest however failed to make an appearance at the City Ground and was loaned out to Lincoln City for his first spell with the club in 1998. Wales National Under-21 Football Team
The Wales national under-21 football team, also known as the Wales U21s, is the national under-21 football team of Wales and is controlled by the Football Association of Wales. The team competes in the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship, held every two years. Joshua David Low (born 15 February 1979) is a retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in England, he represented the Wales U21 national team internationally. Career After spells at Bristol Rovers, Farnborough Town and Leyton Orient he made his name at Cardiff City, before being transferred to Oldham Athletic, where he spent one season before becoming Northampton Town's record signing, costing the club £165,000 in July 2003. Michael John Townsend (born 17 May 1986) is an English footballer who most recently played for Sutton Coldfield Town. Playing career Wolverhampton Wanderers Townsend started his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers as a youth team player where he signed a three-year scholarship. He impressed in the youth teams and was quickly promoted to the reserve side where he established himself as a regular for two seasons. Gavin Caines
Gavin Liam Caines (born 20 September 1983) is an English footballer who is currently with non-league club Ashington. Career Caines began his career as a trainee with Walsall, but without making any first team league appearances he left to sign for Cheltenham Town in July 2004 after a trial period in pre-season which saw him score on his first appearance against Bishops Cleeve. In his time with Walsall he spent an 11-game spell out on loan at Stafford Rangers. In his first full season at Whaddon Road Caines won the Young Player of the Year award, and the next season was involved in the club's promotion to League One. He became a regular squad member during the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons as Cheltenham consolidated their position in League One.
