The 2008 "Final Four" was an international baseball competition held in Barcelona, Spain on September 14–15, 2008. It featured 4 teams from the professional leagues in Italy and Spain. In the end Caffè Danesi Nettuno from Nettuno, Italy won the tournament. Caffè Danesi Nettuno
The Nettuno Baseball Club, established in 1945, is situated and based in Nettuno, Italy. The club competes in the Italian Baseball League, with one team competing in the first division (''Danesi Nettuno BC'') and a second team playing in the second division (''Danesi Caffè Neptune''). Training and home matches are held at Stadio Steno Borghese. The club currently holds the Italian baseball record for most wins (17). 10,000 capacity Stadio Steno Borghese is their home stadium. History The spread of baseball and the craze for it in Nettuno is attributable to the number of U.S. military bases present in the area after the end of World War II. Nettuno is a town and ''comune'' of the Metropolitan City of Rome in the Lazio region of central Italy, south of Rome. Brian James Looney (born September 26, 1969) is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher. He played during three seasons at the major league level for the Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox. He was drafted by the Expos in the 10th round of the 1991 amateur draft. Horacio Estrada Jiménez (born October 19, 1975) is a Venezuelan former relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. Listed at 6' 1", Weight: 185 lb., Estrada batted and threw left handed. He was born in San Joaquín, Carabobo. Career Estrada played from 1999 through 2001 for the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies (2001). Giovanni Carrara
Giovanni Carrara Jiménez ar-rah'-ra(born March 4, 1968) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball pitcher. Listed at 6' 2", 225 lb., Carrara batted and threw right-handed. He established himself as a valuable middle relief man in MLB, as well as a solid starting pitcher in the Italian Baseball League. Carrera initially struggled as a starting pitcher in the major leagues but later became an effective long reliever. He had a 90–92 MPH fastball, along with a couple of breaking balls, a deceptive slow curve, and particularly his off-speed pitch; a hard one that was somewhere between a slider and cut fastball. The Grosseto Baseball Club is a baseball franchise based in the city of Grosseto, Tuscany in Italy, which was founded in 1952. History Grosseto BBC was previously a franchise in Italy's top professional competition, the Italian Baseball League. Grosseto was represented in the IBL's top league, Series A, by several teams with different nicknames over a span of nine seasons from 1999 to 2008. Teams from Grosseto won Series A titles in 1986, 1989, 2004, and 2007. The club also won Gold at the 2005 European Cup tournament. The club was relegated to Series C after the 2011 season due to financial troubles. As a result, the franchise shut down after 60 years.
