2007 Atlantic Championship Season
The 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Season was the thirty-third Champ Car Atlantic season, its sixth season as the prime feeder series for the Champ Car World Series. It began on April 8, 2007 and ended on August 12 after 12 races. The Cooper Tires Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda Drivers' Champion was Raphael Matos driving for Sierra Sierra Enterprises. Drivers and teams The following teams and drivers competed in the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic season. All teams used the Swift 016.a chassis powered by a Mazda-Cosworth 2.3 liter inline-4 engine and Cooper tires. Raphael Matos
Raphael Matos (born August 28, 1981) is a Brazilian professional racing driver. He was the 2008 Firestone Indy Lights Series champion and the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Series champion. He lives in Miami. Career highlights Early career Born in Belo Horizonte, Matos came to the United States in 2002 after karting in Brazil and began competing in Skip Barber Formula Dodge, winning the championship in 2003. In 2004, he moved up to the Star Mazda Series and in 2005 he won the Star Mazda championship. In 2006 he moved up the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Series where he drove for the Sierra Sierra team and captured one victory on his way to 4th place in the points standings. He also competed in 4 Indy Pro Series races for Guthrie Racing and swept the two races held in March at St. Petersburg, Florida. David Garza Pérez (born June 22, 1988) is a Mexican racing driver. He has raced in the A1 Grand Prix and Champ Car Atlantic series. O2 Racing Technology (also known as Genoa Racing) was an American auto racing team owned by Mark Olson that competed in the Indy Lights series. History The team ran the No. 36 and 63 entries in the Indy Lights series for 2011 with Peter Dempsey and Mikaël Grenier Mikaël Grenier (born October 17, 1992) is a Canadian racing driver from Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury. They were suspended from Indy Lights along with owner Mark Olson until the end of 2012 over issues with the David Hobbs 100 at the Milwaukee Mile and the team withdrawing. Polestar Racing Group is an American motorsport team based in Chardon, Ohio, which competes in the Atlantic Championship. It was founded in 2001 and is owned by husband and wife team Jim and Pam Griffith, and Bruce Potter. Junior Strous (born 28 April 1986 in Vlaardingen) is a Dutch racing driver, racing team owner, and entrepreneur from Wassenaar. He has competed at various levels and classes of formula racing starting his professional career in Formula Ford at Geva Racing in 2002, advancing into Formula BMW, Formula Renault, Champcar Atlantic and Indycar Lights. Franck Perera
Franck Perera (born 21 March 1984 in Montpellier, France) is a race car driver who has competed in a number of international open-wheel racing championships. Career In 2006, Perera drove in the GP2 Series for the DAMS team, after four years of racing for the Prema team in junior championships. In 2007 he drove for Condor Motorsports in the Atlantic Championship, scoring three wins and finishing second in the championship behind Raphael Matos. On 6 February 2008 Perera announced that he had signed with Conquest Racing to compete in the Champ Car World Series in 2008 after a successful test with the team. Ronnie Bremer
Ronnie Bremer (born 14 October 1978) is a Danish racecar driver who has driven in the Champ Car World Series. Bremer won three consecutive Danish Formula A karting championships from 1998 to 2000, before racing in British Formula Ford and Formula 3. In 2003, he shifted his career to America, running in the Toyota Atlantic Series, where he notched one win and finished fifth in the Championship. In a somewhat surprising move, the HVM team signed Bremer, still a relative unknown, to a Champ Car ride for 2005. The rookie was impressive in his first five starts, but he was dropped by HVM for financial reasons. However, HVM soon announced that regardless, they had already signed Bremer for 2006. Kevin Lacroix (racing Driver)
Kevin Lacroix (born March 14, 1989) is a Canadian racing driver from Saint-Eustache, Quebec. History After karting, Lacroix drove in Formula BMW USA in 2005 and finished second with four wins. In 2006 he competed in the Star Mazda Series for John Walko Racing and finished second in points with five podium finishes but no wins. 2007 saw him compete in eight races in the second half of the Atlantic Championship season for Brooks Associates Racing. Joseph F. "Joe-joe" D'Agostino, Jr. was a college football player. A two-way offensive and defensive guard for the Florida Gators, D'Agostino was an honorable mention All-American and twice received first-team All-SEC honors. He was a key member of the 1952 team's line which blocked for the renowned backfield which included the likes of Rick Casares, Papa Hall, and Buford Long. Jiang Tengyi (, born January 30, 1985 in Shanghai) is a Chinese racing driver who drives for A1 Team China. In 1998 he took part in the Chinese KART Cup and raced to third place. In 2000, he repeated his performance in the KART Title Match (International A Grade). He bettered his performance in 2001 with second place. He also won the Macao Jinmei Challenge. The next year, he was champion of the Shanghai TCL KART challenge and received a BMW Scholarship. Brooks Associates Racing is an American motorsport team based in Tucson, Arizona, which competes in the Indy Lights series. It previously competed in the Atlantic Championship where it won the 2008 season championship. The team was founded in 2000 by owner John C. Brooks, a former driver himself. Atlantic Championship 2004 Ronnie Bremer raced the first five races of the season with Brooks Associates Racing, before moving to Polestar Motor Racing. James Hinchcliffe
James Douglas Meredith Hinchcliffe (born December 5, 1986) is a Canadian race car driver and commentator best known for competing in the IndyCar Series. Hinchcliffe won six races for Andretti Autosport and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. In 2015, his first year driving for Schmidt Peterson, he suffered life-threatening blood loss when he was impaled in a crash when his suspension failed while practicing for the Indianapolis 500.
