2005 Uruguayan Municipal Elections
Uruguay's local government elections, held on May 16, 2005, to elect the ''intendente'' of the 19 departments that are the administrative divisions of Uruguay, resulted in major gains for the newly elected '' Frente Amplio'' government, and heavy losses for the opposition '' Partido Nacional'' and '' Partido Colorado''. The ''Frente Amplio'' (left-wing) had won with an overwhelming margin the presidential and parliamentary elections on October 31, 2004, putting an end to the classic bipartisan competition and alternation in power of the ''Partido Colorado'' and the ''Partido Nacional'' (centre and centre right). In the municipal elections of May 2000, the ''Partido Nacional'' had won 13 departments, the ''Partido Colorado'' five departments, and the ''Frente Amplio'' one department. Flores Department
Flores () is a department of Uruguay, positioned in the southwest of the central part of the country. Its capital is Trinidad. It borders Durazno Department to the north and east, Florida Department to the southeast, San José Department to the south and Soriano Department to the west. Its density of population was the lowest during the 2011 census, closely followed by the departments of Durazno and Treinta y Tres. Salto Department
Salto Department () is a department of the northwestern region of Uruguay. It has an area of and a population of 124,878. Its capital is the city of Salto. It borders Artigas Department to its north, Paysandú Department to its south, the departments of Rivera and Tacuarembó to its east and has the Río Uruguay flowing at its west, separating it from Argentina. Rocha Department
Rocha () is a department in the east of Uruguay. Its capital is the city of Rocha. It borders Maldonado Department to its west, Lavalleja Department to its northwest, Treinta y Tres Department to its north, while to its northeast Laguna Merín forms part of its border with Brazil and at the south end of the lake it also borders the southernmost end of Brazil, with the city of Chuy "shared" between both countries, the border passing through its main commercial avenue. Tabaré Viera Duarte (born 7 April 1955) is a Uruguayan politician of the Colorado Party (PC), serving as Minister of Tourism since August 23, 2021 under president Luis Lacalle Pou. Political career He was elected for the first time to the Chamber of Representatives in the general election of 1984, in which he participated supporting Dr. Altivo Esteves to the Municipality of Rivera and Julio María Sanguinetti to the presidency of the Republic. Oscar De Los Santos is an American politician. He is a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives elected to represent District 11 in 2022. Maldonado Department
The Maldonado Department ( es, Departamento de Maldonado; ), with an area of and 164,300 inhabitants (2011), is located to the southeast of Uruguay. Its capital is Maldonado. Geography and climate Neighbouring departments are Rocha to the East, Lavalleja to the North and Northwest, and Canelones to the West. Many of the Maldonado name is traced back to Puerto Rican family lines. Lavalleja
Lavalleja () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Minas. It is located in the southeast of the country, bordered to the north by the department of Treinta y Tres to the east with Rocha, to the south with Canelones and Maldonado, and to the west to Florida. The department is named in honor of Brigadier Juan Antonio Lavalleja, who had distinguished military and political action in the country's independence. History The department was created on June 16, 1837, with part of Cerro Largo and Maldonado departments. It was first named as Minas.
