2004 Las Vegas Bowl
The 2004 Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl was a post–season American college football bowl game, held on December 23, 2004, at Sam Boyd Stadium on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a part of 2004–05 NCAA Bowl season. It was the 13th edition of the Las Vegas Bowl. The game featured the Wyoming Cowboys from the Mountain West Conference and the UCLA Bruins from the Pac-10 Conference. The game marked the first meeting between the two programs. Wyoming appeared in their first Las Vegas Bowl, and their first trip to a bowl game since appearing in the 1993 Copper Bowl. It was their 11th bowl appearance in program history. The win ended the Cowboys' six-game bowl losing streak. Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference (MW) is one of the collegiate athletic conferences affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) (formerly I-A). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Craig Thompson has served as Commissioner of the MW since October 15, 1998; Gloria Nevarez will take over the post on January 1, 2023 after Thompson's retirement. 2004–05 NCAA Football Bowl Games
The 2004–05 NCAA football bowl games were a series of 32 post-season games (including the Bowl Championship Series) played in December 2004 and January 2005 for Division I-A football teams and their all-stars. The post-season began with the New Orleans Bowl on December 14, 2004, and concluded on January 29, 2005, with the season-ending Senior Bowl. A total of 28 team-competitive games, and five all-star games, were played. For the first time in three years, the 56 available bowl slots were filled by teams with winning records, as no teams with non-winning seasons (6–6, or .500) were invited to participate in bowl games. Wyoming () is a state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. Justin Medlock
Justin Charles Medlock (born October 23, 1983) is an American professional football placekicker who is currently a free agent. He most recently played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and earned consensus All-American honors. The Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Medlock has also played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL, as well as the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). Deric Yaussi
Deric Yaussi (born August 13, 1983) is a former American football placekicker who attended Wyoming. He is the son of Carol and Randy Yaussi. He now is a kicking coach and currently runs his own kicking camp. Wyoming Deric played under head coach Joe Glenn. 2002 As a true freshman, Yaussi played in three games. However, he did not attempt any field goals or extra points but performed kickoff duties in the three games he played. He earned his first varsity letter. 2003 In 2003, he led the Mountain West Conference in point-after touchdown percentage hitting 97.1%. Maurice Jones-Drew
Maurice Christopher Jones-Drew (born March 23, 1985), often called "MJD", is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins and earned unanimous All-American honors. Jones-Drew was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, 60th overall, was named to the Pro Bowl three times, and led the NFL in rushing yards in 2011. 2002 Las Vegas Bowl
The 2002 SEGA Sports Las Vegas Bowl was the 11th edition of the annual college football bowl game. It featured the New Mexico Lobos and the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins defeated the Lobos, 27–13. Notably the game was the first Division I-A college football game to have a female player on the field, Katie Hnida. Also, UCLA coach Ed Kezirian was victorious in his one and only appearance as a head coach. This was the second year in a row for the Las Vegas Bowl to be held on Christmas day. 1993 Copper Bowl
The 1993 Copper Bowl was an American college football bowl game played on December 29, 1993 at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Arizona. The game featured the Wyoming Cowboys and the Kansas State Wildcats. Kansas State capped off its most successful season in 83 years with its first-ever bowl game victory. The 20th ranked Kansas State Wildcats, making only their second bowl appearance in school history, defeated the Wyoming Cowboys, 52–17. The 2004 UCLA Bruins football team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 2004 NCAA Division I-A football season. They played their home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and were coached by Karl Dorrell. It was Dorrell's second season as the UCLA head coach. 2004 Wyoming Cowboys Football Team
The 2004 Wyoming Cowboys football team represented the University of Wyoming in the 2004 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Cowboys offense scored 318 points while the defense allowed 297 points. Led by head coach Joe Glenn, the Cowboys competed in the Las Vegas Bowl. Preseason During the off season, War Memorial Stadium was upgraded with new railings installed in certain areas as well as more handicap accessible. The big concern coming into Spring Training was the lack of depth on defense, a young and inexperienced offensive line and a poor running game. 13 Starters and 38 lettermen returned. Fall practice began on August 11, 2004. The Cowboys participated in two inter squad scrimmages. The first one was held August 21 and the second one was 5 days later on the 26th.
