1993 Copper Bowl
The 1993 Copper Bowl was an American college football bowl game played on December 29, 1993 at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Arizona. The game featured the Wyoming Cowboys and the Kansas State Wildcats. Kansas State capped off its most successful season in 83 years with its first-ever bowl game victory. The 20th ranked Kansas State Wildcats, making only their second bowl appearance in school history, defeated the Wyoming Cowboys, 52–17. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. Due to most of the conference's College football, football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012–13 season and left the NCAA's NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A). The WAC thus became the first Division I conference to drop football since the Big West Conference, Big West in 2000. 1993 Wyoming Cowboys Football Team
The 1993 Wyoming Cowboys football team represented the University of Wyoming in the 1993 NCAA Division I-A football season. It was the Cowboys' 97th season and they competed as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The team was led by head coach Joe Tiller, in his third year, and played their home games at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyoming. They finished with a record of eight wins and four losses (8–4, 6–2 WAC), as WAC Co–Champions with BYU and Fresno State and with a loss in the Copper Bowl. Guaranteed Rate Bowl
The Guaranteed Rate Bowl is an annual college football bowl game that has been played in the state of Arizona since 1989. Played as the Copper Bowl from inception through 1996, it was known as the Insight.com Bowl from 1997 through 2001, then the Insight Bowl from 2002 through 2011, the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl for 2012 and 2013, and the Cactus Bowl for the 2014 through 2017 seasons. In 2018 and 2019, the game was known as the Cheez-It Bowl. In 2020, Guaranteed Rate signed on as the title sponsor of the game, renaming it as the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. When the bowl was initially founded, it was played at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, on the campus of the University of Arizona. In 2000, the organizers moved the game from Tucson to Phoenix. 1993–94 NCAA Football Bowl Games
The 1993–94 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 1993 NCAA Division I-A football season. In the second year of the Bowl Coalition era, the 1994 Orange Bowl was designated as the national championship game, pitting Florida State (11–1), ranked first in the AP Poll and third in the Coaches Poll, against Nebraska (11–0), ranked second in the AP Poll and first in the Coaches Poll. Undefeated and untied West Virginia was ranked second in the Coaches Poll but was relegated to the Sugar Bowl after finishing in third in the Bowl Coalition composite rankings. Florida State defeated Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, which, along with West Virginia's loss to Florida in the Sugar Bowl, allowed Florida State to secure a national championship in both major polls. Kenny "The Glove" McEntyre (born December 12, 1970) is a former arena football defensive back. He played college football at Kansas State Wildcats football, Kansas State. Chad May (born September 28, 1971) is a former American football quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League in 1995 and the Arizona Cardinals in 1996. He joined the World League of American Football's Frankfurt Galaxy in 1997. May played for the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Football League in 1999 and 2001. The 1993 Kansas State Wildcats football team represented Kansas State University in the 1993 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team's head football coach was Bill Snyder.
