2002 FIFA World Cup Qualification (AFC)
Listed below are the dates and results for the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds for Asia. The Asian Football Confederation was allocated four and half qualifying berths for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, South Korea and Japan, the co-hosts, qualified automatically, leaving two and half spots open for competition between 40 teams. Myanmar withdrew from the tournament after being placed in Group 2 but before any matches had been played, therefore reducing the group to 3 teams. Afghanistan, Bhutan and North Korea chose not to participate. Asia's two remaining automatic qualifying berths were taken by Saudi Arabia and China. Iran defeated United Arab Emirates for the chance to become the possible third Asian qualifier, but lost to Ireland in the intercontinental play-off. Hani Al-Dhabit
Hani Al-Dhabit Faraj Bait Al-Noobi ( ar, هاني الضابط فرج بيت النوبي; born 15 October 1979), commonly known as Hani Al-Dhabit, is an Omani footballer who plays as a midfielder for Dhofar S.C.S.C. in Oman Professional League. Club career Hani Al-Dhabit is a long-time veteran of the most successful sports club in Oman, Dhofar S.C.S.C. and has been in the squad for over 10 years. The United Arab Emirates national football team ( ar, منتخب الإمارات العربية المتحدة لكرة القدم) represents United Arab Emirates in international association football and serves under the auspices of the country's Football Association. Al-Nahyan Stadium
Al-Nahyan Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is also known as Al Wahda stadium. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Al Wahda. The stadium holds 15,000 people and was built in 1995. Mehrdad Minavand
Mehrdad Minavand ( fa, مهرداد میناوند ; 30 November 1975 – 27 January 2021) was an Iranian professional footballer and coach. He played mostly as a left midfielder but was also deployed as a left winger or left-back. Club career Minavand was born in Tehran. He played for a few clubs, including Keshavarz F.C., Persepolis FC, Sturm Graz (Austria), Sporting Charleroi (Belgium) and Al-Shabab (United Arab Emirates) as well as Sepahan. He last played for Rah Ahan FC, but left the team after the 2005–06 season. He played 21 matches in UEFA Champions League and he is all-time record holder among the Iranian footballers in this feature. Karim Bagheri ( fa, ; born 20 February 1974) is an Iranian professional football coach and former player. He played over half of his professional career for Persepolis in the Persian Gulf Pro League.
