2001–02 Bayernliga
The 2001–02 season of the Bayernliga, the fourth tier of the German football league system in the state of Bavaria at the time, was the 57th season of the league. Overview The league champions, FC Augsburg, won promotion to the Regionalliga Süd. It was Augsburgs fifth Bayernliga title, having previously won the league in 1972–73, 1979–80, 1981–82 and 1993–94. Augsburg had been forcibly relegated to the Bayernliga for financial reasons despite finishing eighth in the Regionalliga in 1999–2000. Of the five relegated clubs MTV Ingolstadt was the only one never to return to the Bayernliga, merging with ESV Ingolstadt in 2004 to form FC Ingolstadt 04. FC Memmingen and Würzburger FV won promotion back to the league in the following season while 1. FC Sand and ASV Neumarkt both returned in 2012 when the league was expanded to two divisions. Bayernliga
The Bayernliga (English: Bavarian league) is the highest amateur football league and the second highest football league (under the Regionalliga Bayern) in the state of Bavaria (german: Bayern) and the Bavarian football league system. It is one of fourteen Oberligas in German football, the fifth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fourth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the third tier. From the 2012–13 season onwards, the league has been divided once more into a northern and a southern division, having previously placed in single division format since 1963. The league sits directly under the Regionalliga Bayern and above the Landesligas, which were expanded in number from three to five at the end of the 2011–12 season. FC Falke Markt Schwaben
Falke Markt Schwaben is a German association football club from the city of Markt Schwaben, Bavaria. ''Falke'' is the German word for falcon, with the animal being depicted in the Coats of arms of Markt Schwaben. History The club was formed in 1930 through the merger of predecessor sides ''Ballspiel-Club Markt Schwaben'' and ''Deutsche Jugendkraft Markt Schwaben''. In the aftermath of World War II the club briefly disappeared when occupying Allied authorities banned organizations across the country, including sports and football clubs, as part of the process of denazification, before being reestablished on 4 November 1945. In 1967, team won its first title and gained promotion to the Landesliga Bayern-Süd where they played for seven seasons before being sent down. The Landesliga Bayern-Süd ( en, State League Bavaria-South) was the sixth tier of the German football league system in southern Bavaria. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga (Third League) in 2008, it was the fifth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the fourth tier. The winner of the Landesliga Süd was automatically qualified for the Bayernliga, while the runners-up needed to compete with the runners-up of Landesliga Bayern-Mitte and Landesliga Bayern-Nord and the 15th-placed team of the Bayernliga for another promotion spot. The league was disbanded in 2012, when the Regionalliga Bayern was introduced as the new fourth tier of the German league system in Bavaria. Below this league, the Bayernliga was expanded to two divisions while the number of state leagues grew from three to five divisions. TSV Schwaben Augsburg
TSV Schwaben Augsburg is a German football club which is part of a larger sports association whose origins go back to the 1847 formation of the gymnastics club Turnverein Augsburg. The association's football department was formed in 1907 and after 29 March 1919 played as Schwaben Augsburg. __TOC__ History Local bylaws required the formation of a fire brigade and in 1848 the members of TV also formed the Augsburger Freiwillige Feuerwehr. In 1853, TV was banned for political reasons by authorities fearful of democratic leanings, but managed to carry on as a physical fitness group until being re-established in 1860. Some members left the club in 1863 to form MTV Augsburg, the first of several clubs spawned by the departure of TV including TSV 1871 Augsburg, TSV 1875 Göggingen, MTV 1889 Augsburg, and TSG 1890 Thannhausen. VfL Frohnlach
VfL Frohnlach is a German association football club from the municipality of Frohnlach in Ebersdorf bei Coburg, Bavaria. __TOC__ History The club was established as ''Sports Club Arminia Frohnlach'' in 1919 and, after a 1925 merger with ''Turnverein Frohnlach'', became ''Verein für Leibesübungen 1919 e. V. Frohnlach''. In addition to fielding a football side the sports club had departments for cycling, fistball, and gymnastics. 2002–03 Regionalliga
The 2002–03 Regionalliga season was the ninth season of the Regionalliga at tier three (III) of the German football league system. The Regionalliga was split into two divisions, the Regionalliga Nord and the Regionalliga Süd. The league champions, Erzgebirge Aue and SpVgg Unterhaching, and the runners-up in both divisions, VfL Osnabrück and Jahn Regensburg, were promoted to the 2003–04 2. Bundesliga. Teams SV Babelsberg 03, 1. FC Saarbrücken, 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 and SpVgg Unterhaching came down from the 2001–02 2. SpVgg Weiden
SpVgg SV Weiden, formerly just SpVgg Weiden, is a German association football club from the city of Weiden, Bavaria. Playing in the tier-four Regionalliga Süd in 2010–11, the club had to declare insolvency after being more than Euro 1 million in debt. Unable to raise enough funds to continue competing in the league, Weiden declared on 30 November 2010 that it would withdraw its Regionalliga team and thereby automatically be relegated. All games for the club in the 2010–11 season were declared void. History The side originated with the 1912 establishment of a football department in the gymnastics club ''Turnerbund Weiden''.
