2000 Texas Longhorns Football Team
The 2000 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin during the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. They were represented in the Big 12 Conference in the South Division. They played their home games at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The team was coached by head coach Mack Brown. Schedule Texas finished with a 7–1 record in conference play, Mack Brown's best conference record yet. Their only conference loss came to Oklahoma, which was both conference and national champion. Mack Brown
William Mack Brown (born August 27, 1951) is an American college football coach. He is currently in his second stint as the head football coach for the University of North Carolina, where he first coached from 1988 until departing in 1997, when he left Chapel Hill to become head coach for the University of Texas. In 2018, Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Two days after Carolina fired Larry Fedora in November 2018, Brown was announced to return as the Tar Heels' head coach after a five-year hiatus from coaching, which he spent as an ESPN analyst. Prior to his head coach positions at Texas and North Carolina, Brown was head coach for Appalachian State and later, Tulane. Fox Sports Networks (FSN), formerly known as Fox Sports Net, was the collective name for a group of regional sports channels in the United States. Formed in 1996 by News Corporation, the networks were acquired by The Walt Disney Company on March 20, 2019, following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Red River Showdown
The Oklahoma–Texas football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between border rivals Oklahoma and Texas. The two teams first played each other in 1900, and the rivalry has been renewed annually and uninterrupted since 1929 for a total of 118 games as of 2022. The rivalry is commonly referred to as the Red River Shootout, or alternatively the Red River Rivalry, or the Red River Showdown. The " Red River" in the name refers to the body of water that runs along much of the border between the states of Texas and Oklahoma. The game has been played on the second Saturday in October since 1934 (with the exception of select years when it was held on the first Saturday). The 2000 Oklahoma Sooners football team represented the University of Oklahoma in the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season, the 106th season of Sooner football. The team was led by Bob Stoops in his second season as head coach. They played their home games at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. During this season, they competed in the Big 12 Conference. The Sooners opened the season ranked #19, the first time they had made it into a pre-season poll in five years. After four early-season victories against unranked foes, Oklahoma had risen to #10 in the country. Beginning at the end of September, OU defeated #11 Texas (63-14), #2 Kansas State (41-31), and #1 Nebraska (31-14). By that point, the Sooners had risen to #1 in the polls, a position they retained through the rest of the season.
