20th Senate Of Puerto Rico
The 20th Senate of Puerto Rico was the upper house of the 12th Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico that met from January 2, 1993, to January 1, 1997. All members were elected in the General Elections of 1992. The Senate had a majority of members from the New Progressive Party (PNP). Roberto Rexach Benítez
Roberto Nicolás Rexach Benítez (December 18, 1929 – April 4, 2012) also known as his stage name Bobby, was a Puerto Rican politician, and former Senator and Representative. Rexach Benítez served as the tenth President of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1993 to 1996. He also served as a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives from 1973 to 1976, under the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and as a member of the Senate (1985–1998) under the pro-statehood New Progressive Party (PNP). Prior to his legislative career, he was the first director of the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo (1967–1970) and University of Puerto Rico at Humacao (1961–1967). The Assistant Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate of Puerto Rico (commonly called Majority Whip and Minority Whip) are two Puerto Rican Senators who are elected by the party conferences that hold the majority and the minority respectively. These leaders substitute the Majority and Minority leaders in their absence. Víctor Marrero Padilla
Víctor Marrero Padilla (1938 – April 18, 2023), also known as El Búho, was a Puerto Rican politician who served as a Senator. He was a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1993 until his conviction of corruption in 2000. Biography Víctor Marrero was first elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico at the 1992 general elections and was reelected in 1996. Accusation In 2000, Marrero was accused of illegally appropriating $600 destined for an air conditioner for a medical clinic at the Ramón Marín Sola housing project in Arecibo. He was tried and found guilty by a jury on October 11, 2000 with a verdict of 11–1. The family of Marrero maintain his innocence, but were not able to get a new trial for him. on '' |
Norma Carranza
Norma Carranza De León is a Puerto Rican politician from the New Progressive Party (PNP). She served as member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1993 to 2001. He has a Bachelor's degree in Sciences of the nutrition from the University of Puerto Rico, a master's degree in that subject at Tulane University School of Medicine, and a doctorate in medicine from the Dominican University. Carranza was elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico in the 1992 general election. She represented the District of Arecibo, along with Víctor Marrero Padilla. Carranza was reelected at the 1996 general election. Carranza ran for a third term at the 2000 general elections, but was defeated by the candidates of the PPD. Arecibo
Arecibo (; ) is a city and municipality on the northern coast of Puerto Rico, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, located north of Utuado and Ciales; east of Hatillo; and west of Barceloneta and Florida. It is about west of San Juan, the capital city. Arecibo is the largest municipality in Puerto Rico by area, and it is the core city of the Arecibo Metropolitan Statistical Area and part of the greater San Juan Combined Statistical Area. Héctor O'Neill
Héctor O'Neill García (born June 20, 1945) is a Puerto Rican politician. He was mayor of his hometown of Guaynabo. O'Neill is affiliated with the New Progressive Party (PNP) and has also served as a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico. Aníbal Marrero Pérez (October 3, 1949 – January 25, 2005) was a Puerto Rican politician. He was a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1984 until he resigned in 2000 amidst corruption charges. Biography Aníbal Marrero was born on October 3, 1949, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, to Víctor Marrero and Jacinta Pérez. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in management and education from the University of Puerto Rico. After graduating, Marrero worked as a teacher for the Puerto Rico Department of Education from 1970 to 1972. In that year, he became a school director in Bayamón until 1973. In 1974, he started working as deputy director of the Ecotactics Program for the Municipality of San Juan. Rolando Alvaro "Rolo" Silva Iglecia (February 19, 1945 - June 7, 2022), was a Puerto Rican politician from the New Progressive Party (PNP). He served as member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1981 to 1997. Silva served in the United States Army as a captain during the Vietnam War. Earned a Juris doctor from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law. He was elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico in the 1980 general election. He represented the District of San Juan. Oreste Ramos Díaz is a Puerto Rican intellectual, lawyer, politician and former senator.
