2024 Ontario Tankard
The 2024 Ontario Tankard, the provincial men's curling championship for Southern Ontario, will be held from January 22 to 28 at FlightExec Centre in Dorchester, Ontario. The winning rink will represent Ontario at the 2024 Montana's Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship in Regina, Saskatchewan. The event will be held in conjunction with the 2024 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship. Both events are held together in non-Winter Olympic years. The Municipality of Thames Centre provided $10,000 of seed money to host the event, which is expected to attract 18,000 too 20,000 visitors. Dorchester, Ontario
Dorchester is a town in Ontario whose name first applied to the township and honours Sir Guy Carleton, Lord Dorchester (1724-1808). The name was changed from Dorchester Station on May 3, 1961. Dorchester is the residential and commercial core of the municipality of Thames Centre, in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, a few kilometres directly east of the city of London. According to the Canada 2016 Census, the town has a population of 3,911. The local arena underwent a $10 million expansion and opened on November 2, 2010. This expansion added a second NHL-sized ice pad, a gymnasium, and many other facilities to go along with upgrades to the existing part. It is now home to the Dorchester Dolphins Junior C hockey team. 2023 Stu Sells Tankard
The 2023 Stu Sells Tankard was held from October 5 to 9 at the Barrie Curling Club in Barrie, Ontario. The event was held in a round-robin format with a purse of $30,000 on the men's side and $21,000 on the women's side. It was the second Stu Sells sponsored event held as part of the 2023–24 season. In the men's final, Japan's Yusuke Morozumi led his team of Yuta Matsumura, Ryotaro Shukuya, Masaki Iwai and Kosuke Morozumi to a triumphant 8–2 victory over South Korea's Jeong Byeong-jin. Morozumi opened the game with a count of five in the opening end. Jeong replied with two in the second before the Japanese answered back with three in third to bring the game to an early close. The Morozumi rink finished 3–1 through the round robin and scored playoff wins over Marco Hösli and Mike Fournier to reach the final. Travis Fanset
Travis Mitchell Fanset (born July 26, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Tillsonburg, Ontario. A former Canadian junior runner-up, he played on the World Curling Tour From 2011 to 2017, including one season with the John Epping rink. Career Fanset and his rink of Craig Van Ymeren, Geoff Chambers and Christopher Jay won the 2008 Ontario Junior Curling Championships, defeating Neil Sinclair in the provincial final. The team represented Ontario at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, Fanset led his rink to a 9–3 round robin record. The team then defeated Saskatchewan (skipped by Brennen Jones) in a tiebreaker, and then Prince Edward Island ( Brett Gallant) in the semifinal, before losing to Quebec's William Dion in the final. Michael Fournier
Michael "Mike" Fournier (born November 24, 1971) is a Canadian curler originally from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. He currently skips his own team out of Toronto, Ontario. Career Fournier played in his first Quebec Tankard in 2014 at the 2014 Quebec Men's Provincial Curling Championship. His team reached the semifinal where they lost to eventual champions Jean-Michel Ménard. They made it one game further the following year at the 2015 Quebec Men's Provincial Curling Championship, losing in the final to the Ménard rink. Fournier won his first provincial championship at the 2018 WFG Tankard. His team qualified for the playoffs as the fourth seed and won three straight games to claim the provincial title. Mark Kean
Mark Kean (born June 22, 1988 in Innerkip, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Woodstock, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of Ottawa. Career Kean's junior career involved winning the provincial junior mixed title in 2009. Kean made a quick transition to men's curling winning the provincial Colts trophy in 2010 and in 2011 playing in his first provincial tournament. At the 2011 provincial championship, his rink finished with a 3-7 record. As preparation for the 2011 provincial, the Kean rink played in their first Grand Slam of Curling event, at the 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling, where they went winless (0-5). Kean qualified for his second provincial championship in 2012 posting a 3-7 record. Pat Ferris
Patrick "Pat" Ferris (born October 28, 1975 in North York, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Grimsby, Ontario. He currently skips his own team. Career Ferris had a successful junior career. In 1993, he skipped his Sutton District High School team to a provincial schoolboy championship. He won back to back provincial junior titles in 1995 and 1996. This qualified Ferris to skip the Ontario team at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in both of those years. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario. In both events there were no playoffs, but a tie for first place after the round robin forced a tiebreaker. In 1980 he lost to John Kawaja and in 1981, he lost to John Base. John Epping
John Allan Epping (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Toronto, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of the Leaside Curling Club in East York, Toronto. Career Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Epping was a top junior curler, having won the Ontario Junior championship in 2004. At the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team finished with an 8-4 record, just out of the playoffs. He won the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with Julie Reddick, Scott Foster and Leigh Armstrong. He won the 2007 provincial mixed as well, but could not defend his national title. After Juniors, Epping played third for Nick Rizzo until switching positions with Rizzo in 2006, and thus skipping the team. However, in 2007 he was picked up to play third for Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris. He'd only play one season for Harris before joining Wayne Middaugh's rink at second in 2008. Stu Sells Brantford Nissan Classic
The Stu Sells Brantford NISSAN Classic is a curling tournament or bonspiel part of the men's and women's curling tour. The event existed exclusively on the Ontario Curling Tour until 2017, before it was added as a WCT event for 2018 and 2019. The event is an annual event held at the end of November and the beginning of December. The event took place at the Brant Curling Club in Brantford, Ontario until 2017. It was moved to the Paris Curling Club in Paris, Ontario in 2018 and then the Brantford Golf & Country Club for 2022. A women's event was held in 2016 and did not return until 2022.
