2024 Olympic Qualifier Series
The 2024 Olympic Qualifier Series was a sporting event held in May and June 2024 in Shanghai and Budapest, respectively. This two-part series was the inaugural edition of a multi-sport Olympic qualifying event, which determined the athletes who will compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Freestyle BMX, BMX freestyle, Breaking at the 2024 Summer Olympics, breaking, Skateboarding at the 2024 Summer Olympics, skateboarding, and Sport climbing at the 2024 Summer Olympics, sport climbing. Background In April 2022, International Olympic Committee announced the plans for a four-sport, festival-style qualification event for what it described as "urban sports"—BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding, and sport climbing—in city-centre venues. The series was a part of the organisation's efforts to promote the Olympic qualifying process outlined in its Olympic Agenda 2020+ project, which cited the success of urban sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Justin Dowell (born January 5, 2000) is an American freestyle BMX cyclist who has represented his nation at numerous global events including the Olympic Games, and won medals at multiple World Championships. From Virginia Beach, Dowell is known for a trick move called ''The Twix'' which is a mix of a tail whip and a bar at the same time. He won the freestyle park event at the 2018 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships. In 2019, he obtained a bronze medal at the Pan American Games. Marcus Christopher (born December 31, 2002) is an American professional freestyle BMX rider. He represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Early life Christopher was born to Matt and Lori Christopher, and has a younger brother, Charlie. He attended Lake High School in Lake Township, Stark County, Ohio. He turned pro in 2016 at age 13. Career Christopher made his X Games debut at 16 years old in 2019. In May 2023, he won a bronze medal in BMX park in Japan. Kieran Reilly (born 12 July 2001) is a British cyclist from Gateshead who competes in Freestyle BMX. In August 2023 he became the World Champion at the event. Career Reilly began performing tricks on his BMX at the Leam Lane skatepark, in Gateshead. He entered his first competition at the Urban Games in Whitley Bay. Anthony Jeanjean (born 13 May 1998) is a French cyclist who competes in the Freestyle BMX. Jeanjean began riding BMX in Montpellier, aged 10. Antilai Sandrini (born 30th November 1997) also known as Anti, is an Italian breakdancer. She started breakdancing at 13 years old, after being introduced to it by her father. Sandrini has practiced gymnastics and cheerleading and is also an Italian Wushu Champion, having won silver medals in changquan and gunshu at the 2019 Mediterranean Wushu Championships. Sya Dembélé (born 1 September 2007), also known mononymously as Syssy, is a French breakdancer. Early life and education Sya Dembélé was born on 1 September 2007 in Saint-Étienne, France. She is the daughter of professional artists from the African dance group Doni Doni. Her father was a griot in Burkina Faso, while her mother is a choreographer. , also known as Ayumi, is a Japanese Breakdancing, breakdancer. She participated at the 2022 World Games in the Dancesport at the 2022 World Games, dancesport competition, being awarded the bronze medal in the B-Girls event.
