2024 KDU–ČSL Leadership Election
A leadership election for KDU-ČSL was held on 18 October 2024. Marek Výborný was elected the new leader. Background Marian Jurečka became leader of the party in 2020. Under his leadership it became part of Spolu alliance which won 2021 parliamentary election and Cabinet of Petr Fiala was formed. KDU-ČSL became part of government. Voting preferences of KDU-ČSL dropped to 2% and Jurečka stated that he will decide whether he wil run for reelection after 2024 European Parliament election and 2024 Czech regional elections. He set up a task to complete if he wants to run for another term. Terms were to reverse the trend of declining preferences, succeed in the European election and succeed in regional and senate elections. He failed to achieve one of these tasks as KDU-ČSL won only 1 seat in European Parliament indstead of 2. Following European Parliament election discussions within the party about new leader started. Marek Výborný
Marek Výborný (born 10 July 1976) is a Czech politician, who has been serving as the Czech Minister of Agriculture in Petr Fiala's Cabinet since June 2023 and the leader of KDU-ČSL since October 2024. He was also the leader of KDU-ČSL between 2019 and 2020. Výborný resigned on the post on 19 November 2019 after his wife died and he became a single parent for his three children. He left the position on 25 January 2020. Personal life Výborný studied history and theology at Palacký University in Olomouc. Then in 2001 he started at Gymnázium, Pardubice, Mozartova 449, teaching history, basics of social sciences and Latin. From 1 August 2012 until 31 March 2018 he was director of the Mozart Grammar School. Jan Grolich
Jan Grolich (born 11 June 1984) is a Czech politician, lawyer and former stand-up comedian. He has served as representative of the municipality of Velatice and chairman of South Moravian Region, respectively since 2010 and 2020. Early life Grolich was born in Brno on 11 June 1984. He completed his law practice in Brno, passing the bar exams already during his mayoralty. Grolich also used to be a stand-up comedian. Červený Kostelec (; ) is a town in Náchod District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 8,300 inhabitants. Czech Radio (, ČRo) is the public radio broadcaster of the Czech Republic operating continuously since 1923. Michaela Šojdrová
Michaela Šojdrová (born 28 October 1963) is a Czech politician who had served as Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from July 2014 to July 2024. She is a member of the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party, part of the European People's Party. Early life and education She was born in Kroměříž.
