2024 Indian Super Cup
The 2024 Super Cup (also known as the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth edition of the Super Cup and the 42nd season of the national knockout football competition in India. Odisha were the defending champions, having defeated Bengaluru in the 2023 final. East Bengal defeated the defending champions Odisha 3–2 in the final to win their first national title in 12 years. As the winners, East Bengal have qualified for the 2024–25 AFC Champions League 2 preliminary stage. Format The tournament proper will feature 16 top clubs across the top two divisions of Indian football. All 12 clubs from the ISL qualifies directly for the group stage. Among the five I-League teams confirming their participation (Gokulam Kerala FC, Sreenidi Deccan FC, Shillong Lajong FC, Inter Kashi, and Rajasthan United FC), the top three as per the 2023–24 standings after the matches on December 24 will qualify for the group stage. The Kalinga Stadium is a multi-purpose International stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Its foundation stone was laid by former chief minister of Odisha Late Biju Patnaik in 1978. I-League
The I-League (known as Hero I-League for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp) is the second-tier men's professional football competition of the Indian football league system. It is currently contested by 12 clubs across the country with the winners getting promotion to play in the premier division, the Indian Super League. The competition was founded in 2007 as the successor to the National Football League, with the first season starting in November 2007. The league was launched as India's first ever top-tier professional football league with the aim to increase the player pool for the India national team.
