2024 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections are scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in January 2024. Background The current Sangsad ( 11th) is scheduled to expire on 29 January 2024, as the first session of this parliament sat on 30 January 2019 and the tenure of a parliament lasts five years. The Awami League won the 2018 general elections and formed the government. Incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has hinted she does not intend to lead her party, the Awami League, into another election. Electoral system The 350 members of the Jatiya Sangsad consist of 300 directly elected seats using first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies, and an additional 50 seats reserved for women. The reserved seats are elected proportionally by the elected members. Each parliament sits for a five-year term. Jatiya Sangsad
The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament, or MP. The 11th National Parliamentary Election was held on 30 December 2018. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. The leader of the party (or alliance of parties) holding the majority of seats becomes the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and so the head of the government. Jatiya Oikya Front (English: National Unity Front; bn, জাতীয় ঐক্য ফ্রন্ট) was a Bangladesh-based political alliance of primarily four parties led by Kamal Hossain. The front officially declared its formation on October 13, 2018 at the National Press Club ahead of the national election. The front currently comprises Gono Forum, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD and Nagorik Oikya. Islami Andolan Bangladesh
Islami Andolan Bangladesh ( bn, ইসলামী আন্দোলন বাংলাদেশ, lit=Islamic Movement of Bangladesh) is one of the biggest Islamist political party in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1987 by Fazlul Karim as Islami Shashontantra Andolan (Islamic Constitutional Movement), and took its current name in 2008. Its student wing is Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh. Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari ( bn, সৈয়দ নজিবুল বশর মাইজভাণ্ডারী) is the chairman of Bangladesh Tarikat Federation and the incumbent Member of Parliament of the Chittagong-2 constituency. The Bangladesh Tarikat Federation ( bn, বাংলাদেশ তরিকত ফেডারেশন; BTF) is a secular-Sufi political party in Bangladesh founded by Syed Najibul Bashar of the Maizbhandaria tariqah and some Pir-Mashaikh of Banglades.
