2023–24 USHL Season
The 2023–24 USHL season was the List of USHL seasons, 45th season of the United States Hockey League as an all-junior league. The regular season ran from September 20, 2023, to April 13, 2024, with a 62-game schedule for each team. The Western Conference champions Fargo Force were awarded the Anderson Cup for the second consecutive year and went on to win the List of USHL Champions, Clark Cup Championship. Season highlights Total fan attendance at regular season games was calculated at 1,122,616, compared to 1,116,004 in 2022–23 USHL season, 2022–23. The Sioux Falls Stampede set a South Dakota state attendance record for a hockey game with 11,025 attending its 11 February match against the Sioux City Musketeers. United States Hockey League
The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA college hockey. The Chicago Steel won the Anderson Cup as the 2020–21 regular season champions and the 2021 Clark Cup, Clark Cup playoff championship; both were their second in franchise history. Operations The USHL is the country's top sanctioned junior hockey league, classified as Tier I. Youngstown Phantoms
The Youngstown Phantoms are a junior ice hockey#Tier I, Tier I junior ice hockey team that plays in the Eastern Conference of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The team plays home games at the 5,200-seat Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio. The team was co-owned by Bruce J. Zoldan (founder and CEO of fireworks brand Phantom Fireworks, hence the team's name) and Troy Loney (who played 12 years in the National Hockey League, NHL, primarily for the Pittsburgh Penguins) along with his wife Aafke Loney. Michael Hage
Michael Hage (born April 14, 2006) is a Canadian ice hockey centre for Michigan in the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He was selected in the first round, 21st overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2024 NHL entry draft. Playing career Early years During the 2021–22 season, Hage recorded 46 goals and 70 assists in 57 games for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 AAA team. Trevor Connelly
Trevor Connelly (born February 28, 2006) is an American ice hockey left wing for the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He was drafted 19th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2024 NHL entry draft. Playing career Between 2020 and 2022, Connelly played for four different amateur teams, unusual for a player of his calibre. One of the four, Bishop Kearney High School, suspended him almost immediately before he left within two weeks. On March 14, 2022, Connelly signed with the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL). At the 2022 USHL Fall Classic, he made his debut with the team in a 4–1 win over the Madison Capitols, and scored his first goal during a 6–4 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Matvei Gridin
Matvei Gridin (born 1 March 2006) is a Russian ice hockey player for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) as a prospect for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 28th overall by the Flames in the 2024 NHL entry draft. Playing career Gridin began playing hockey at three years old in his hometown of Kurgan. He played youth hockey for Spartak St. Petersburg and Avangard Omsk's organizations before being selected by the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 15th round of the 2022 USHL draft. Omaha Lancers
The Omaha Lancers are a Tier I junior ice hockey team and are members of the Western Conference of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Founded in 1986, the Lancers play at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston, Nebraska. Previous arenas of use include the Omaha Civic Auditorium, Mid-America Center, Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum, and Motto McLean Ice Arena. Des Moines Buccaneers
The Des Moines Buccaneers are a Tier I junior ice hockey team in the United States Hockey League (USHL). The team has played in the Western Conference since the 2009–10 season. History The Buccaneers began USHL play during the 1980–81 season and have played all their home games at Buccaneer Arena located in Urbandale, Iowa, outside of Des Moines. The Buccaneers have won four Anderson Cup championships (1993–94, 1994–95, 1997–98 and 1998–99) and four Clark Cup championships (1992, 1995, 1999 and 2006) in their history. Lincoln Stars
The Lincoln Stars are a Tier I junior ice hockey team playing in the United States Hockey League (USHL). The Stars' home ice is the Ice Box on the former Nebraska State Fair grounds and adjacent to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. History With prompting of Lincoln realtor Mark Claydon, who spear-headed an effort to build the city's first and only indoor ice arena, the Stars came to Lincoln in 1996. Led by Derek Reynolds and future NHL player Josh Langfeld, the Stars posted a 40–13–1 regular season record, the best expansion season in USHL history. Tri-City Storm
The Tri-City Storm is a Tier I junior ice hockey team based in Kearney, Nebraska, that plays in the Western Conference of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Its name refers to the three central Nebraskan cities of Kearney, Hastings, and Grand Island. History Founding under Ted Baer On May 15, 1999, the USHL unanimously voted to allow then Omaha Lancers' owner, Ted Baer, to place a new team in Kearney, Nebraska, for the 2000–01 season. The Waterloo Black Hawks are a Tier I junior ice hockey team playing in the Western Conference of the United States Hockey League (USHL) under president and general manager P.K. O'Handley. The Black Hawks' home ice is the Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa. History Early history The Waterloo Black Hawks began as a semi-professional senior team in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 1962.
