2023 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships
The 2023 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships is the World Championships for Road bicycle racing, road cycling for athletes with a physical disability. The championships took place in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland from 9 to 14 August 2023. The championships form part of the inaugural cross-discipline 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, 2023 UCI World Cycling Championships. Medalists Events are held in four broad categories, with four different types of bicycle, denoted by a letter-number code: * B1 are pairs races for blind and visually impaired cyclists, riding a tandem bicycle with a sighted 'pilot'. * C1-C5 are cyclists on standard or near-standard bicycles, with minor modifications to allow use by paracyclists, e.g. attachments on handlebars or pedals. * H1-H5 are hand cycling races using tricycles powered by hand-cranking of pedals from a recumbent position. Michael Sametz (born on May 21, 1996) is a Canadian road racing para cyclist who competes in the C3 classification. He won a bronze medal for Team Canada at the 2016 Summer Paralympics – Men's road time trial C3. Early life Sametz was born on May 21, 1996, in Calgary, Alberta, to mother Ronda. After suffering a stroke in the womb, he was born with right hemiplegic cerebral palsy. While attending Springbank Community High School, Sametz participated in Alberta Schools' Athletic Association sponsored cross country, golf, and badminton. He began cycling at age 12 when he was looking to try a new sport and turned to competitive road and track cycling in 2014. Jetze Plat
Jetze Plat (born 10 June 1991 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch para-cyclist in the H4 class. He also competes in the paratriathlon. Career Plat was born with two stunted legs. In 1995, Plat started using a handcycle, to cycle to school. Later he started practising the sport para-cycling. In the beginning of his athletic career Plat was coached and trained by Kees van Breukelen. As Plat improved in the sport he was coached by Ralf Bekers. During the World Cup in Rome, Plat qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. In the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Plat competed in both cycling and para-triathlon. He won the paratriathlon gold medal in the PT1 class. He also won a bronze medal in the Men's Road Race in H5 class. These were his first Paralympic medals.
