2023 Rugby World Cup – Oceania Qualification
Qualifying for the 2023 Rugby World Cup for Oceania Rugby began in July 2021, where 3 teams competed for one direct qualification spot into the final tournament and for a place in a cross-regional play-off match. Format Oceania Rugby was granted one direct qualification berth, and was awarded to the winner on aggregate of a Samoa–Tonga home and away play-off (Oceania 1). The loser then progressed to a straight play-off match against the winner of the 2021 Oceania Rugby Cup to advance as Oceania 2 to a cross-regional play-off against Asia 1. All matches are scheduled to be held in New Zealand due to COVID-19 restrictions and rates in the region. 2019 Rugby World Cup – Oceania Qualification
Qualifying for the 2019 Rugby World Cup for Oceania Rugby began in June 2016, where across 2 years, 3 teams competed for two direct qualification spots from Oceania. Two places were available to Oceania in a cross-regional play-off series' to qualify for the World Cup and or advance through the Repechage. Two teams from the Oceania region, New Zealand and Australia, qualified automatically for the 2019 World Cup by finishing in the top 12 in the 2015 World Cup. Fiji and Tonga qualified by finishing first and second (on aggregate) in the 2016 and 2017 Pacific Nations Cup competitions. Samoa advanced to the cross regional play-off where they would play a team from Europe for a place in the World Cup; the loser would move to the Repechage. Stacey Ili (born 11 May 1991 in New Zealand) is a Samoan rugby union player, who currently plays as a midfield back for in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition and for the in Super Rugby. Early life Ili was a student at Onehunga High School in Auckland. While there he played rugby union for the school side. Ili also played basketball for the school. Ili was involved with Auckland from 2012 and played sevens for the side, but did not represent the senior XVs side before his move to Australia to join Melbourne Rising. Henry Stowers (born 3 March 1995) is a New Zealand born, Samoan rugby union player who plays for the Benetton Rugby in the United Rugby Championship. His playing position is flanker. He is also a Samoan international. Biography Stowers was born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, with family from Tafagamanu and Salea’aumua in Samoa. Rodney Esekia Iona (born 17 August 1991) is a Samoan rugby union footballer who currently plays as a fly half and Centre for the Brumbies in the Super Rugby Pacific 2022. Neria Fomai (born 3 February 1992) is a rugby union player, who currently plays as a centre or wing for in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition and for in Super Rugby. He was born and raised in New Zealand, but has represented Manu Samoa – for which he is eligible due to his Samoan heritage – both in the fifteen-a-side form of the game and rugby sevens. Ahsee Tuala (born 23 August 1989) is a Samoan rugby union player who plays as a fullback for Aviva Premiership side Northampton Saints.
