2023 Italian By-election
One by-election was held in Italy in 2023. The election was held at the same time as the 2023 Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol provincial elections and Foggia's local elections. List Senate Lombardy 06: Monza A by-election was held in the constituency of Monza on 22 and 23 October 2023 to replace senator and former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi (Forza Italia), who died of leukemia on 12 June 2023. Forza Italia member Adriano Galliani won the election with 51.46% of the votes. A by-election, also known as a special election in the United States and the Philippines, a bye-election in Ireland, a bypoll in India, or a Zimni election (Urdu: ضمنی انتخاب, supplementary election) in Pakistan, is an election used to fill an office that has become vacant between general elections. A vacancy may arise as a result of an incumbent dying or resigning, or when the incumbent becomes ineligible to continue in office (because of a recall, election or appointment to a prohibited dual mandate, criminal conviction, or failure to maintain a minimum attendance), or when an election is invalidated by voting irregularities. Action ( it, Azione, abbr. A or Az) is a liberal political party in Italy. Its leader is Carlo Calenda, a member of the European Parliament within the group of Renew Europe and former minister of Economic Development. Originally launched as We Are Europeans (, SE), it adopted its current name in November 2019 upon becoming a fully-fledged party. Calenda has described his party as "anti-populist" and "anti- souverainist". Cateno Roberto De Luca (born 18 March 1972) is an Italian politician, mayor of Messina from 2018 to 2022. Biography Mayor of Fiumedinisi and Santa Teresa di Riva De Luca was born in Fiumedinisi. At the age of 18 he began his political career by being elected to the city council of his city and at the age of 22 he was appointed councilor to the municipality. Italian Left ( it, Sinistra Italiana, SI) is a left-wing political party in Italy. SI was launched in November 2015 as a parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies (full name: Italian Left – Left Ecology Freedom), including Left Ecology Freedom (SEL), dissidents from the Democratic Party like Future to the Left, and splinters from the Five Star Movement. The Five Star Movement ( it, Movimento 5 Stelle , M5S) is a political party in Italy. Its leader and president is Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy from 2018 until 2021.
