2023 Israeli–Palestinian Prisoner Exchange
During the Israel–Hamas war, a series of exchanges were made between Israel and Hamas to exchange 2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis, militant-held hostages for Palestinian prisoners in Israel, Palestinian prisoners. The negotiations were brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, and were part of a broader 2023 Israel–Hamas ceasefire, temporary ceasefire agreement. In Israel the deal was called "Operation Heaven's Door" ( Hebrew: דלתות שמיים ), and the subprogram for the rehabilitation of foreign citizens was called "Operation "Friendly Hand" ( Hebrew: יד אחות ). Israel released 240 Palestinian prisoners, 107 of whom were between 14 and 17 years old, and three-quarters of whom had not been convicted of a crime, although some were awaiting trial in a military court. The Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, formally the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 is a Special Rapporteur who works for the United Nations and reports on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Administrative detention is arrest and detention of individuals by the state without trial. A number of jurisdictions claim that it is done for security reasons. Many countries claim to use administrative detention as a means to combat terrorism or rebellion, to control illegal immigration, or to otherwise protect the ruling regime. In a number of jurisdictions, unlike criminal incarceration (imprisonment) imposed upon conviction following a trial, administrative detention is a forward-looking mechanism. While criminal proceedings have a retrospective focus – they seek to determine whether a defendant committed an offense in the past – the reasoning behind administrative detention often is based upon contentions that the suspect is likely to pose a threat in the future. Ahed Tamimi
Ahed Tamimi ( ar, عهد التميمي, ‘Ahad at-Tamīmī, also romanized ''Ahd''; born 31 January 2001) is a Palestinian activist from the village of Nabi Salih in the occupied West Bank in Palestine. She is best known for appearances in images and videos in which she confronts Israeli soldiers. Tamimi's advocates consider her a freedom fighter for Palestine, comparing her to Malala Yousafzai; her detractors argue she is manipulated by political parents and has been taught to engage with violence. In December 2017, she was detained by Israeli authorities for slapping a soldier. The incident was filmed and went viral, attracting international interest and debate. Israa Jaabis
Israa Jaabis ( ar, إسراء جعابيص) is a Palestinian woman who was imprisoned in Israel from 2015 to 2023. Jaabis seriously injured herself and police officer Moshe Chen when she allegedly detonated a car bomb in 2015, according to Israeli authorities. Her family, however, claims that the fire originated from a fault in her car. According to the Israeli police, Jaabis, a 31-year-old Palestinian, planned to detonate a gas tank near a soldiers' hitchhiking station close to Ma'ale Adumim. According to the Shin Bet, officer Moshe Chen stopped Jaabis's car, at which point she yelled "Allahu Akbar" and detonated the bomb. Moshe, who sustained injuries in the attack, including burns to his face and chest, received a commendation from the police for his actions. Saleh al-Arouri (born 19 August 1966; ar, صالح العاروري), also transliterated as Salah al-Arouri or Salih al-Aruri, is a prominent leader of Hamas and founding commander of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military. 2023 Hamas-led Attack On Israel
On 7 October 2023, the paramilitary wings of Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the PFLP, and the DFLP launched a series of coordinated armed incursions into the Gaza envelope of neighboring Israeli territory, the first invasion of Israel since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.
