2023 Indy NXT
The 2023 Firestone Indy NXT Series season is the 21st season of the primary support series for the IndyCar Series, sanctioned by IndyCar. Known as Indy Lights before 2023, the championship was rebranded following its acquisition by Penske Entertainment, the owner of INDYCAR, in 2022. This rebrand coincided with the three lower support series, still run by Anderson Promotions, also changing their branding. Linus Lundqvist, the reigning 2022 Indy Lights champion, became a free agent after the season, so he did not defend his championship. Series news * On June 22, 2022, it was announced that after seven seasons, Cooper Tires would be replaced as tire supplier by Firestone. * As part of the rebrand, the prize structure was changed. Indy Lights
Indy NXT, previously Indy Lights, is an American developmental automobile racing series sanctioned by IndyCar, currently known as Firestone Indy NXT Series for sponsorship reasons. Indy Lights is the highest step on the Road to Indy, a program of racing series leading up to the IndyCar Series. The Indy Lights series has been promoted by Anderson Promotions since 2014, which also manages the Road to Indy program. A similar series named Indy Lights filled the developmental role for the CART series, and ran from 1986 to 1993 as the American Racing Series and Dayton Indy Lights from 1991 to 2001. The current IndyCar sanctioned series was founded in 2002 as the Infiniti Pro Series as a way to introduce new talent to IndyCar, with the moniker Indy Lights returning in 2008 when CART and IndyCar unified. Josh Green (born November 15, 2002) is an American racing driver. He currently competes in the 2023 INDY NXT driving for HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing. Green previously competed with Turn 3 Motorsport in the 2022 Indy Pro 2000 Championship. Racing career Karting Green first competed in racing driving indoor karts in 2015. He quickly moved into outdoor karting at Oakland Valley Raceway Park in Cuddebackville, NY, running in club and regional events in 2016. Dale Coyne Racing (DCR) is an American professional open-wheel racing team that currently competes in the IndyCar Series. The team was founded in 1984 and is owned by former driver Dale Coyne. From 1995 to 2000, the team was known as Payton-Coyne Racing, reflecting a partnership with Chicago Bears great Walter Payton. Kyffin Simpson (born 9 October 2004 in Bridgetown, Barbados) is a Cayman-based American- Barbadian racing driver. Toby Sowery (born 30 June 1996 in Melbourn) is a British racing driver. HMD Motorsports (formerly BN Racing) is an American racing team in the IndyCar Series and Indy Lights series. The team is owned by Henry Malukas.
