2023 Independence Bowl
The 2023 Independence Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 16, 2023, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. The 47th annual Independence Bowl game featured the Texas Tech Red Raiders from the Big 12 Conference and the California Golden Bears from the Pac-12 Conference. The game began at approximately 8:15 p.m. CST and was aired on ESPN. The Independence Bowl was one of the 2023–24 bowl games concluding 2023 FBS football season. The bowl game was sponsored by engineering services company Radiance Technologies and was officially known as the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. Independence Stadium (Shreveport)
Independence Stadium is a stadium owned by the city of Shreveport, Louisiana and is the home of the Independence Bowl. Formerly known as State Fair Stadium and Fairgrounds Stadium, it is the site of the annual Independence Bowl post-season college football game, initially (1976 in sports, 1976) the ''Bicentennial Bowl''. Before that, it was the home venue of the Shreveport Steamer of the short-lived World Football League (1974–75). It also served as a neutral site for the annual Arkansas–LSU football rivalry from 1924 to 1936. The 1924 game featured a silver football trophy as part of the dedication ceremonies for the new stadium. The stadium is also host to numerous high school football games and soccer matches, since many schools in Shreveport lack an on-campus facility. Independence Stadium also hosted the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, LHSAA state football championship games in 2005 after the Louisiana Superdome suffered heavy damage from Hurricane Katrina. ...

The 2023 UCF Knights football team represented the University of Central Florida (UCF) as a member of the Big 12 Conference during the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Knights were led by Gus Malzahn in his third year as the Knights head coach. The team played their home games at FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Florida. UCF officially moved into the Big 12 Conference for the 2023 season. Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough ( ; born September 28, 1999) is an American football quarterback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Shough began his college career with the Oregon Ducks from 2018 to 2020 before transferring to Texas Tech in 2021. Early life and high school career Shough is a native of Chandler, Arizona and Glenn and Dana Shough's fourth of five children. Shough's parents met as students at Arizona State University. His father Glenn is a retired police officer, currently teaching criminal justice with driver’s education, and his mother Dana is a retired educator. In 2009, Dana was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The Ole Miss Rebels football program represents the University of Mississippi, also known as "Ole Miss". The 1998 Independence Bowl was a college football postseason bowl game between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Background The Rebels had plummeted to fourth in the SEC West after losing their last three games, including one to Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. Tuberville left the team prior to the bowl game for Auburn, leaving the coaching duties to David Cutcliffe, hired on December 2. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders were third in the Big 12 South Division after losing four of their last five games. This was the first Independence Bowl for both teams since 1986, which Mississippi won, 20-17. The 2023 Washington Huskies football team represented the University of Washington as a member of the Pac–12 Conference during the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season.
