2023 Golden Gala
The 2023 Golden Gala was the 43nd edition of the annual outdoor track and field meeting in Italy. Held on 2 June at the in Florence, it was the third leg of the 2023 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. The highlight of the meeting was Faith Kipyegon running 3:49.11 to break the world record in the 1500 m, beating Genzebe Dibaba's mark from 2015. She ran the race in a negative split, covering her first 800 metres in 2:04.1 but her last 800 m in 2:00.6. Kipyegon also became the only woman in history to run under 3:50. Results Athletes competing in the Diamond League disciplines earned extra compensation and points which went towards qualifying for the Diamond League finals in Zürich. First place earned 8 points, with each step down in place earning one less point than the previous, until no points are awarded in 9th place or lower. Rohan Browning
Rohan Browning (born 31 December 1997 in Crows Nest) is an Australian sprinter. He represented his country in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2017 World Championships without qualifying for the final. He also competed in the 100 meters at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, narrowly missing the final. Rohan currently studies a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney. On 16 January 2021, Browning ran the 100 metres in a wind-assisted time of 9.96 seconds with the tailwind being +3.3 m/s. This made Browning the second Australian sprinter ever to break the 10-second barrier—after Patrick Johnson, who first broke the barrier back in 2003 with a time of 9.93 seconds. However, the tailwind meant that the run was not legal for record purposes. On 31 July 2021, Rohan ran a 10.01 in the heats of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Luis Grijalva
Luis Grijalva (born 10 April 1999) is a Guatemalan long-distance runner. Born in Guatemala, he attended Armijo High School in Fairfield, California, where he was a state champion in cross country and track. He went on to compete for Northern Arizona University, securing multiple All-American finishes in the NCAA. In 2021, Grijalva began competing professionally, sponsored by HOKA ONE ONE. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he finished twelfth in the 5000m. He also finished fourth in the 5000m at both the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships. Running career High school and college Grijalva was a state champion in cross country while attending Armijo High School, winning Division 1 of the 2016 CIF State Cross Country Championships. Yomif Kejelcha Atomsa (born 1 August 1997) is an Ethiopian distance runner. He won a silver medal in the men’s 10,000 metres at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. On 3 March 2019, Kejelcha broke the indoor mile world record with a time of 3:47.01. Mohamed "Mo" Katir El Haouzi (born 17 February 1998) is a Spanish middle- and long-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. Katir took silver in the 5000 metres at the 2022 European Championships. He is the European indoor record holder for the 3000 metres. Eseosa Fostine "Fausto" Desalu (born 19 February 1994) is an Italian sprinter who specialises in the 200 metres winning a silver medal in that event at the 2018 Mediterranean Games and a gold medal in the 4×100 m relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Aaron Brown (born 27 May 1992) is a Canadian sprinter who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres. As part of Canada's 4×100 m relay team, he is a two-time Olympic medallist at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2022 World champion. Jereem Richards (born 13 January 1994) is a Trinidadian track and field sprinter who specializes in the 200 metres and 400 metres events. Richards is from Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago, and attended the University of Alabama.
