The 2023 Four Days of Dunkirk (French: ''Quatre Jours de Dunkerque 2023'') is a road cycling stage race that took place between 16 and 21 May 2023 in the French administrative region of Hauts-de-France. The race was rated as a category 2.Pro event on the 2023 UCI ProSeries calendar, and is the 67th edition of the Four Days of Dunkirk. 2023 UCI ProSeries
The 2023 UCI ProSeries is the fourth season of the UCI ProSeries, the second tier road bicycle racing, road cycling tour, below the UCI World Tour, but above the various regional UCI Continental Circuits. The calendar consists of 57 events, of which 33 are one-day races (1.Pro), and 24 are stage races (2.Pro). There are 49 events in Europe, six in Asia, one in the United States, and one in Argentina. Maubeuge
Maubeuge (; historical nl, Mabuse or nl, Malbode; pcd, Maubeuche) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is situated on both banks of the Sambre (here canalized), east of Valenciennes and about from the Belgian border. History Maubeuge (ancient ''Malbodium'', from Latin, derived from the Old Frankish name ''Malboden'', meaning "assizes of Boden") owes its origin to Maubeuge Abbey, a double monastery, for men and women, founded in the 7th century by Saint Aldego, the relics of whom are preserved in the church. It subsequently belonged to the territory of Hainaut. The town was part of the Spanish Netherlands and changed hands a number of times before it was finally ceded to France in the 1678 Treaty of Nijmegen. Benjamin Thomas (born 12 September 1995) is a French professional road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He rode at the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. In August 2018, he was named in the startlist for the 2018 Vuelta a España. In October 2020, he was named in the startlist for the 2020 Giro d'Italia. He rode the Tour de France for the first time in 2022. On stage 15, Thomas broke away from the Peloton and was attempting to get the first French win in over thirty stages, but was caught inside the final few hundred meters. After the stage he commented, "I believed I could make it. If we could have stayed together with Alexis maybe it would have been different… I'm completely dead, I'm seeing stars. I was not thinking anymore." Individual Time Trial
An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage"). There are also track-based time trials where riders compete in velodromes, and team time trials (TTT). ITTs are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends only on each rider's strength and endurance, and not on help provided by teammates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream. Individual time trial are usually held on flat or rolling terrain, although sometimes they are held up a mountain road (in Italian: ''cronoscalata'' "chrono climbing"). Saint-Quentin (; pcd, Saint-Kintin; nl, label=older Dutch, Sint-Kwintens ) is a city in the Aisne department, Hauts-de-France, northern France. Laon
Laon () is a city in the Aisne department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. History Early history The holy district of Laon, which rises a hundred metres above the otherwise flat Picardy plain, has always held strategic importance. In the time of Julius Caesar there was a Gallic village named Bibrax where the Remis (inhabitants of the country round Reims) had to meet the onset of the confederated Belgae.
