2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup
The 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup (known as the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 95th annual running of the Cheltenham Gold Cup horse race and was held at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire, England, on 17 March 2023. The race was won by the 7-5 favourite Galopin Des Champs, owned by Mrs Audrey Turley, trained in Ireland by Willie Mullins and ridden by Paul Townend. Cheltenham Gold Cup
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a Grade 1 National Hunt horse race run on the New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse in England, over a distance of about 3 miles 2½ furlongs (3 miles 2 furlongs and 70 yards, or 5,294 m), and during its running there are 22 fences to be jumped. The race takes place each year during the Cheltenham Festival in March. The steeplechase, which is open to horses aged five years and over, is the most prestigious of all National Hunt events and it is sometimes referred to as the ''Blue Riband'' of jump-racing. Its roll of honour features the names of such chasers as Arkle, Best Mate, Golden Miller, Kauto Star, Denman and Mill House. Noble Yeats
Noble Yeats (foaled 16 May 2015) is an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who competes in National Hunt racing. In 2022 he won the Grand National under Sam Waley-Cohen, becoming the first seven year old horse to win the race since Bogskar in 1940. Background Noble Yeats is a bay gelding bred by Kristene Hunter in Ireland. His sire is Coolmore stallion Yeats, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup in four consecutive years (2006 to 2009) and his dam is That's Moyne, a winner over hurdles. Venetia Williams
Venetia Williams (born 10 May 1960) is an English racehorse trainer specialising in National Hunt racing. She is based at stables at Aramstone in Herefordshire, England. Williams was born at Scorrier House, Cornwall and began as a racehorse trainer at Ty-Pengam. She was an amateur National Hunt jockey until forced to retire after suffering a broken neck in 1988. She worked for racehorse trainers Martin Pipe and John Edwards before taking up a licence to train herself in 1995. Her most successful horse to date has been Mon Mome, winner of the 2009 Grand National. This victory made her only the second female trainer to win the race, after Jenny Pitman. Charlie Deutsch
Charlie Deutsch is a British National Hunt jockey. Racing career Deutsch began his racing career with Charlie Longsdon in 2013 before moving across to Venetia Williams in Herefordshire. He fell in his first ride for Williams. Deutsch won the Grade 3 Betfair Handicap Chase at Cheltenham with Aachen in 2015. He would win the race again in 2021 with Commodore making him joint leading jockey in the race. In 2016, Deutsch won the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton Park with Yala Enki. The jockey stated it as his biggest win at the time. Deutsch was arrested in 2018 for drink driving. At this point of his career, he had won 88 races. His first ride after release from prison was Rogue Dancer at Huntingdon Racecourse on 16 October 2018. He finished 2nd. Dan Skelton is a British horse trainer who trains racehorses that compete in National Hunt racing. Skelton is the son of British Olympic gold medallist Nick Skelton and the older brother of champion jockey Harry Skelton. Harry Skelton
Harry Skelton (born 20 September, 1989) is a British jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Skelton was the 2020-2021 British Champion Jump Jockey. Career Skelton started his racing career with Richard Hannon on the flat, before switching to jump racing and joined his brother, Dan, who was assistant trainer to Paul Nicholls in Somerset. In 2009, he became the youngest winner of the Irish Grand National on Niche Market trained by Bob Buckler. In 2011, he won his first Grade 2 race with Celestial Halo in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell Park. In 2013, Skelton joined his brother who had set up Dan Skelton Racing in Warwickshire as the new yards lead jockey. Emmet Mullins (born 1989/90) is an Irish National Hunt trainer and former jockey based in County Carlow. Background and career as a jockey Mullins comes from a racing background. His father, George Mullins, was an amateur jockey and set up a racehorse transport business. His uncle is trainer Willie Mullins. During a career as a jockey from the 2006-07 season to the 2014–15 season, Mullins rode a total of 83 winners, including seven Grade 2 and 3 winners. Sean Bowen (born 5 September 1997) is a Welsh jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Bowen is the son of horse racing trainer Peter Bowen. Career Bowen was an accomplished point-to-point jockey, who won the Wilkinson Sword title for his achievements in the discipline; later it was also won by his brother James Bowen. Gordon Elliott (racehorse Trainer)
Gordon Elliott (born 2 March 1978) is a County Meath-based National Hunt racehorse trainer. After riding as an amateur jockey, he took out a trainer's licence in 2006. He was 29 when his first Grand National entry, the 33 to 1 outsider Silver Birch, won the 2007 race. In 2018 and 2019 he won the Grand National with Tiger Roll, ridden by Davy Russell and owned by Gigginstown House Stud, the first horse since Red Rum to win the race twice. Cheltenham Racecourse
Cheltenham Racecourse at Prestbury Park, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, hosts National Hunt horse racing. Its most prestigious meeting is the Cheltenham Festival, held in March, which features several Grade I races including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Ryanair Chase and the Stayers' Hurdle. The racecourse has a scenic location in a natural amphitheatre, just below the escarpment of the Cotswold Hills at Cleeve Hill, with a capacity of 67,500 spectators.
